NBS BIF #13: Peninsular Envy 2 (The Rocket-Ball Inception)

I wasn't available this weekend because of the holiday, so I've spent this morning getting caught up on the NBW thread and the action I missed here. It's a nice way to start the week, and really makes me look forward to the official share weekend approaching. Speaking of, @BBThunderbolt should be receiving his last box today after it took a detour through Fresno for a few days. It looks like it should now be at its final destination just waiting to be sorted. Finally, I wasn't around over the weekend, but I did enjoy a few beers Friday night on a Skype call with some friends that came to me from this group.

First up was a beer that @2beerdogs sent me in round 11, and I can't thank him enough for it. Beer Geek Observation is a BA imperial stout with vanilla and coffee collab between Bottle Logic and Mikkeller. It poured a deep brown, almost black color with a fleeting mocha colored head. The aroma was all broubon, vanilla, and roasted malt. The coffee became a bit more detectable as it warmed. Big notes of bourbon were present throughout, complimenting the dark chocolatey malt. The coffee was there, adding a touch of bitterness to the finish while the sweet vanilla helped amplify the bourbon. This was full bodied and rich, coating the palate, with balanced sweetness. This was truly fantastic.

After that was one of the beers that @Dimidiata sent me in this round from Cellarmaker. Cloudy With A Chance Of Dobis is a 6.8% all Citra IPA. It poured a soft golden haze topped with a 2 inch foamy head that clung to the glass leaving waves of lacing. The aroma was heavily pineapple and passionfruit, and the taste followed suit. All of the juice explosion that the aroma promised was in the taste. Big hits of pineapple and passionfruit with minimal bitterness on the finish, but a dry enough finish to keep you wanting more. Medium bodied and soft as can be. A very well done hazy IPA that shows what Citra can do. Thanks, Chrsitine!

There is clearly no room for rest in this group. I was on my way out the door to run some errands when I heard a knock at the door. I'm glad I missed my mail carrier because he is surely getting annoyed with me. One of these is from @Dimidiata and I was given warning about. The other appears to be from a googly-eyed ninja. Unfortunately, unveiling will have to wait until this afternoon, but this is a great way to start the week. Thank you both!

My target's box is out for delivery, a couple days later than I was told, but at least it isn't a couple weeks!
I'm thinking I'll be sending some local hops next, but these should wet your whistle for a couple days.

@Roguer , it's my day off. My main project, actually, only project is done - packages dropped off at the post office. Where are they going and when will they land? I'll Join you with an IPA in a bit over at WBAYDN. @Roy_Hobbs I plan on getting your 2nd package out tomorrow before work.

 

Uh-oh. USPS is still saying my 1st box to @Victory_Sabre1973 is on track to arrive today, but is also saying it will be "arriving late." It's not been scanned since it left Spokane on the 2nd.

 

Yeah, I saw that. Oh, well, maybe tomorrow.

 

Airplane ride coming, shipping straight north from my house, give or take.

 

On the plus side, it's now in St. Paul.
