Style wise I am big all kinds of IPA guy. The more haze the better. I also like other styes, anything imperial, barley/wheat wines, stouts, porters, Belgians, British. If you like it and it is killer I will too.

The only beer styles I don't care for is SOURS/WILD FERMENTED beers. I have rarely found any that I have liked so please don't send.

To whom I am sending to I will just say that the beer situation near me lately will allow me to hit anyone's preferences. The diversity in releases has been staggering and I have been stocking up for this!

    Wishlist time!

First and foremost, I like well-made classic styles, including anything from malty German lagers to American IPAs.

As far as tastes, these days I tend towards a lot of nicely-carbed, crispy things, like traditional lagers, but also things like Belgian ales (saison, grisette, Belgian pale/blonde, witbier, etc.). Czech and German-style lagers, both golden and dark are also nice. Example: I love fresh Arabier from De Dolle (bitter, pretty clear, well-carbed, and dry-hopped!)-- enough that I cultured some of their yeast from one of their bottles and brewed my own iteration at home.

I'm always interested in mixed-ferm things if they are complex and nuanced, rather than super-phenolic where all you taste is Brett phenols, if that make sense. If it's someone just chucking Brett into their flagship beer I may not care about it or enjoy it as much. But yeah, mixed-ferm stuff that's bottle-conditioned with good head is dope. Also noteworthy under this umbrella is that I don't like beers that are overly sour, but if it's something that's, for example, a spontaneous beer, that might be more interesting to me. Examples of stuff in this category I like would be bottles from Four Winds, Jester King, Auval, Tilquin, etc.

Something I'm coming to appreciate more nowadays is the malt profile in beers-- malt almost feels like the new hop for me, if that makes sense. I'm a homebrewer, and this is something that's on my radar a lot lately. So lots of British ales are cool to try, historical styles, dark lagers, stouts, etc. I remember a year or two ago trying an ESB from Brasserie Dunham that was pretty great, that surprised me considering what they typically brew. I think it was called Beretta?

That seems like a good segue to mention big malty beers-- imperial stouts, barleywines, eisbocks, doppelbocks, tripels, quadrupels, etc. I always love trying these! Barrel-aging goes hand-in-hand here, so any B.A malty beers are always a treat to try. One example of a stout that pleasantly surprised me lately at how good it was was the latest BOYD from Bellwoods. I'm also fine with adjuncts!

And lastly, the thing that always gets mentioned is IPAs-- I do like IPAs. I'm all for trying out new and hypey NEIPAs (even milkshake), but at the end of the day, what I am going to buy at my local watering hole is going to be something that doesn't have tons of hop and yeast particulate in suspension, and has firm bitterness. Bitterness is always something I crave in IPAs and even in lagers or saisons-- like... 40IBU in a German lager is great, and an IPA with 70IBUs is just what the doctor ordered. I love a good American IPA that's somewhere between NE & west coast. I feel like if you let a canned IPA sit for a week and it yields sediment, it has been packaged too early. But that's just me! As for examples, I don't really have any good examples of a "midwest" IPA off the top of my head. A local brewery here (Halifax, NS) called Unfiltered has a flagship that does this well. But yeah if you're gonna send me a hypey IPA from du Bas, for example, I'll gladly drink that as well.

Sorry if this is too wordy-- but I figure if I'm going to drone on about my beer preferences, this is probably the place to do it. Happy picking =)

OH, and for my recipient (TBD), I'll echo what Chris/Electros said-- that there is a ton of good variety in releases in my area lately, so I should have no problem at all filling a box of cool stuff for people! We even have a few cideries if you're interested in fruiter, less-glutinous things. Lastly... I may do a post that says "like this post if you are interested in receiving a bottle of homebrew" once I'm closer to taping up my box. It's drinkable, I swear!

    Cheers,

    Matt

Well, I have an account over on that other site where all my ratings are stored. I like learning about breweries I've never heard of before. But mostly the bigger flavour styles (so not into amber ales or any of those types of beers), but anything hoppy, sour, stout/porter, saison type stuff, heck really well made lagers or brown ales or whatever's interesting these days. If it's good, it's good.

I haven't bought everything yet, because I want to see my target's preferences.

    Cheers!

    Here is the official tally:

    NS - 4
    NB - 2
    QC - 4
    ON - 7
    MN - 1
    AB - 1

    Toral - 24.

Very healthy mix in the numbers. As per usual a secondary list will be made up after I tally this for those interested in a second box which some have already indicated. Cheers to everyone and especially to my beer "Secret Santa."

So let's go to my dreams and wishes. I am a stout guy. My first priority is dark beers. Stronger is better. Imperial boozy 10%+ pals work great to me. If barrel-aged, then it makes it even tastier. Completely fine and happy with adjuncts and pastry-sweet stuff.

The second tier is IPAs. I don't mind some classics but follow modern trends and hypes. Hazy DIPAs and TIPAs would be great. Don't mind adjuncts or lactose.

Not crazy about but I can appreciate some sour or farmhouse beers. All you can think of a "Belgian-like" styles.

No real DONT'S, but I am not a big fan of "light and crisp." Lagers or low ABV plain Ales are rather at the bottom of my list.

    Have a great weekend.

Good job! I'm really excited again

I really love Barrel Aged bottles. Stouts are my favorites but if you find Barleywine or Sours bottles, I'm always interested!

I really doesn't like hops at all.

I don't care if it's a bottle from this year or 3 years ago. Barrel ages bottles are great for aging

    Santé à tous!

Thanks Electros put putting this on!

    To my sender:
Untapped is more up to date than my BA profile, so I'd venture there for history,
    https://untappd.com/user/min7b5/

There are only a few styles I don't like:
Sours, barely wines, wine aged beers,

My major go too's have always been IPA's & stouts. I love a well made stout, but also like to try different styles when possible (market saturation & all). Belgians, germans, hefe's and well made lagers are just as good along the NA style beers. What ever gets chosen will be enjoyed.

    To my receiver:
Without giving too much away, you're east of me and my craft beer hobby started while I lived there.
