Other Half (2021)

Sipping on a 2019 Green City stout (George Dickel) and this thing is great. Rich chocolate, caramel, vanilla. Very drinkable, disturbingly so given the abv. If anyone else has a bottle lying around I suggest cracking it!

This new release ‘Much too Much’ has me intrigued with their attempt at “too many hops”. Will it be a harkening back to the old diesel in your face profile, or will it be much too much melon? I feel like this is the beer that will either win me back completely or break me entirely.

 

Picked up Green Diamonds. Not impressed. Tastes muddled.

Yeah, I was under the impression that the melon taste had something to do with yeast since it's in so many of their beers despite different hop profiles. Some hops do give beer a melon taste (looking at you riwaka), but you usually don't get that with the big 3 - Citra, Galaxy, Mosaic.

 

I am one of the ones who feels like some of the HDHC beers have this heavy, almost, vegetal thing some times that makes them taste very green even after they have been canned for some time. I noticed it in a few of them last summer for sure. Not sure if its a too many hop products is too much situation but Much Too Much did have me intrigued. SD with a different yeast sounds potentially promising but I remember someone saying the prior batch was not at old levels. Would love feedback if anyone gets this new batch since I will be in BK tomorrow!

 

So Space diamonds got distributed to NJ. I was super excited because it was one of my favorite OH beers few years back. Having said that, it's missing some of that OH magic. It's a really good beer, but it's not as pungent as I remember it being. Obviously, it's not fair for me to compare what the brewery was few years back vs the scale what it is on now.
It's still a great beer. Actually, slightly too easy drinking lol for 8.5%

 

Heads up @algebeeric_topology @hops_for_thought since you guys messaged me when I posted Fidens to my IG story. OH is doing a tap takeover tomorrow with Fidens among some other heavy hitters. Go see if they're worth the hype!

 

Don’t sleep on Obercreek either. Have loved everything I’ve had from those guys.

 

Had Obercreek Arcade Skylight few weeks ago. Fucking Phenomenal. I would def get more stuff from them.

 

Obercreek is right by the train station that I used to commute from. I used to stop by on my way home from work on Friday nights and get a growler fill. All of their stuff is really good.

 

I used to do long runs up there, train to Poughkeepsie and then end at obercreek. Pernil sandwich and tostones from cafe con leche, ideal day

 

Their pernil and chicharon have been a takeout Saturday go-to for most of this past year. I also really like their yuca fries. They do some mean cocktails. Their mojito is strong. Their beer list though is TERRIBLE haha.
