Wait? When'd I do that? Looks like Nashville Beer was brewed for an "Alabama Brewing Co." (yeah, the geography's off) starting in 1988 - makes sense, 1982 was too soon for most of the contract-brewed "craft" brands that popped up in that decade.

The Podlucky's, owners of Jones Brewing Co. (of Stoney's Beer fame), at the time said that Nashville Beer was the same recipe as Stoney's Light.

(Supposedly Heileman almost sold their 1980s-era Val. Blatz "microbrewery" in Milwaukee to an "Alabama Brewing Co." but apparently the deal fell through, since it wound up in Miller-owned Leinenkugel's hands. No idea if it was the same "Alabama" as the above.

Redhook also kicked the tires of the Blatz facility, IIRC.)

That'd be similar to most any +30 year old AAL...

[IMG] Tonight’s Blind Battle Beers (All three pairs were correctly identified in the blind taste test):

    1) Leinenkugal’s Honeyweiss (4.9%): A kristallweizen-style wheat beer from Wisconsin that has strong American adjunct flavors. Mostly corn mash and malt liquor flavors.
    versus
    2) Trader Joe’s Lager (5.0%): A bready lager with a mix of German and American hops. Slightly adjunct, but with enough of a Munich lager flare.

    3) Fulton's 300 IPA (7.0%): A west-coast Mosaic IPA from Fulton Brewing, MN with strong and wet tropical fruit flavors. Wet pineapple, melon, and berry flavors, although dry at the end.
    versus
    4) Lagunitas’ Stereohopic IPA (7.2%): Brewed with Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin hops, this IPA has flavors of citrus, green tropical fruit, and lychee. Bigger and sweet.

    5) Castle Danger’s Northshore Lager (5.3%): A Vienna -style lager with toasty malts and some spicy Noble hops giving it flavors of German brown bread, toast, with some light floral and lemon flavors.
    versus
    6) Left Bridge Elevated Amber (4.7%): An Amber ale from Minnesota that has lightly toasted barley and rye malts with a caramel and red fruit finish. Low carbonation though and drinks somewhat flat.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Winners:

    2) Trader Joe’s Lager:
This one has nice bready flavors and a smooth malt body. Enough Munich lager flare here to balance.

    3) Fulton's 300 IPA:
This has one of the best Mosaic hop profiles I’ve had with delicious juicy and tropical fruit flavors. Actually tastes like a dinosaur melon, whatever that is.

    5) Castle Danger’s Northshore Lager: This one had delicious smooth and toasty malts with just enough floral hops to provide a nice dry balance. Mild, but authentic.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Agree/Disagree?
Have you tried Fulton's 300 IPA and what did you think?
Have you had either of the amber/vienna lagers and what did you think?

What else needs to be said about this beer at this point? The accolades will speak volumes for years to come. Said it all.

Offshoot Escape IPA. This one is a bit more bitter than I was expecting going in but still solid. Nearly exploded on me when opening so a pound of head dropped in.

West coast style of an “east” coast Clever Girl IPA. Both are brewed by Triple Crossing. The second pic was taken in November.

Clear, amber body, apricot in hue; lively carbonation; thick and fluffy head, white and lasting. Light note of toasted wheat and a trace of apricot. Heavy sweetness to the taste; grain-like and boozy. Heavy body with a big residual sugar presence; sticky.

The bottle label notch indicated the beer was bottled in June (no year, but 2020 is a fair guess). For an imperial ale, this one isn't too bad. There is some initial heavy booziness to the taste but that dissipates a bit as the beer opens up. It does lean towards the sweet side, especially with the mouthfeel, but drinking it a bit cooler than I usually enjoy my beers would probably temper that aspect. Overall, a fine beer.

Hmm how old? I thought they weren’t releasing a mango Oberon this year and to look for a new variant. So much for that information. I like that one more than the base beer and a primo pairing with sausages
