Are bottles going away? I like both formats but I understand why cans are more convenient.

I noticed some breweries are going back to bottles, like Odell.

Wasn't this a move due to the can shortage?

Yes. That said, I've only seen a couple of their beers come out in bottles and they "seem" to be moving slowly. I don't reckon that they intend to replace all of their beers with bottles...

Still love the 22oz bottle. May be the only one, so be it.

Cans, especially 16 ounce cans, are the package of choice among the new consumers of craft beers (e.g., the Haze Bros). But there is still a market for bottles among other segments of the craft beer market. When I took a tour of the Sierra Nevada brewery in North Carolina the tour guide mentioned there were still a large segment of their customers who prefer bottles.

I suppose in another few years we will see what happens here, especially once the can shortage is rectified.

    Cheers!

I hope bottles aren't going away. Most beers that I prefer come in bottles, St Bernardus, Cantillon, Orval, etc. However I understand that I'm in the minority, and most people these days are infatuated with IPAs and prefer their beers in cans. Cool bro. There's room enough for both types.

Bottles are convenient if you want less than a full container. A stopper will keep the bottled beer drinkable for a few days after opening. This can be useful in tastings or when you might want to mix two kinds of beer. Larger bottles, say quarts, and refillable half gallon growlers have the potential to be cheaper too. Cans are good for single serve and toting to a picnic but a 16 or larger can is above my single serve limit. I prefer bottles.

Don't like the value, plus that's a lot of beer to drink if you are the only one ( my wife only likes a few styles of beer )

Transport cost ( weight was supposedly a factor ) & less breakage in favor of cans. I prefer bottles for higher ABV offerings especially if there is any desire to cellar them

I like drinking dark, strong beer from bottles and lighter beer from cans. Just my preference.

Says the user with a wax'd 22oz bottle in their user profile picture

But in all seriousness, I'm hit or miss on missing 22oz bottles. I do miss Firestone Walker reserve series in that format, but beyond that, I'm really only a fan of some Side Project in the larger 750mL format (just feels like the right size bottle to put on the table and share a saison / stout).

I have zero doubts that the "haze bros" do indeed make up a great number of people who prefer 16oz cans. But, interestingly enough, I, a guy who is rarely interested in an IPA, let alone a hazy one, also prefer the 16 oz format. My favorite beers are lower abv beers that are not wilds, goses, or lambics. Beers that I prefer, such as lower abv. pilsners, helles, pale ales, and porters are great in a 16 oz format. The 16 oz cans of Weinstephaner Helles are perfection in my book.

I thought there was a lot of arguing over why cans were better for beer in all ways, especially for aging. Got me feeling a little dizzy.

I actually prefer my lagers in 16oz cans, but would otherwise want 12oz of any other beer. A 16oz can of 4.5% lager makes more sense (to me) than 16oz of 7.8% IPA (or any beer style, for that matter).

Well, you are in luck in that a lot of the craft breweries are catering to your preference.

The aspect of 16 ounce cans I dislike the most is the cost, craft breweries price the four-pack/16 ounce can format at high prices. I am fortunate that I can still buy plenty of beers (at the moment) in the six-pack/12 ounce format. I bought two six-packs yesterday while grocery shopping.

    Cheers!
