Wants for Breweries

I fully support this idea!

 

I like this idea but first we'd need to have a mechanism to find out about the new breweries. I think the ones that newly open are sometimes mentioned in the appropriate regional thread, but some of them are not. Any ideas on how that could happen?

 

The same way we find out about beers from existing breweries, people talk about, and add them to their Wants list. A new brewery opens, somebody (whether the brewery itself or a user) adds it to site. That person (if a user) could just add the brewery to their Brewery Gots list, like we do with beer.

Sure, it's a slow process, but it's the same with beers, unless the hype is strong. How many times have we heard about about a brewer leaving a gig to open his own brewery, and the hype machine runs rampant until they get open? A lot.

 

Yeah, it's a slow process, or non-existent in the case of some breweries that don't get hyped. I like to start that hype train if I can visit a 'gem in the rough' and get them listed here. There has to be a better, more reliable way.

 

We all just a bunch of monkeys throwin' stuff at the walls. Some of it sticks.....

Once a brewery builds a certain amount of mass, I think the inherent momentum would tend to keep it moving. Building the mass is a chore. Every little thing helps.

 

@Todd Would it be possible to have a list of newly added places show up at the side of the screen (or at the bottom for the phone version of BA) in the Places forum similar to the Recent Posts list in the Forums section? That list would still rely upon a member adding the place, thus probably a few months after the place's actual opening, but it would get the word out to members to check it out.

Just something for you to put on your list of things to consider for the site.

Ahhh, never mind, I just looked and discovered this 'great new list' that I'm suggesting is already being done. On the phone it's way at the bottom, so now I have to work on it's visibility.

 

For those searching for it on a web browser, once on the "Places" page, the list is on the right side below "Recent Reviews". It's titled "Recently Added". Both of these lists, Recent Reviews, and Recently Added, are also included on individual city guides (i.e. if you click on "Phoenix", it'll show you the latest place reviews and place additions for Phoenix, AZ.)

As for getting the word out - a lack of active users in all areas may have more to do with the lack of information on some breweries. There is one brewery in my metro area where I have reviewed all the beers listed (until someone from a different state 'added' a few beers), and the only other ratings/reviews until recently were courtesy of my BIF contributions.
