While slackers like @BBThunderbolt are just now joining us ( :stuck_out_tongue: ), I'm kicking in my next contribution to the thread: Gravity Drop, a 9.2% ABV Baltic Porter from Wayfinder, and my first new beer this weekend from my actual NBS BIF sender, @Xul .

To quote The Good Place, this beer is dope (also: BOOOOOORTLLLLEEEEES!).

It's super roasty and toasty, but just as equally balanced and drinkable. It really highlights what a high ABV Baltic Porter can really be when executed well: flavorful, roasty, bitter, deep, dark, and exceptionally drinkable.

Damn, damn good - and not the only Baltic Porter I have to try from this BIF.

Andrew I know you like Pastry Stouts based on posts I've read so I gave it a shot. One common trait common to Magnify's big Stouts is that the head dissipates almost instantly which is a little disappointing. You have to take the photo quickly. But they seem to do well with adjuncts. The only reason I haven't tried it is that I have a weird reaction to banana; they make my tongue itch. Glad you enjoyed it!

    Bracer helles lager
    ...cloudy orange appearance
..medium light carbonation with about a medium body
..aroma is earhty, honey, citrus peel, mild pine, citrus fruit
..taste is mildly sweet quickly put in check by a citrus peel dry bitterness in the finish that lingers in the aftertaste. There was some sour grain and cereal in the background.
...overall I kept trying to like it but it was too far from I am used to calling a lager[IMG]

I’d been wanting to try this one for some time now and finally grabbed a four pack. This one has been reviewed and discussed quite a bit in the Weihenstephan cans thread so here it is. Weihenstephaner Helles...

Pours a lively looking crystal clear light gold/straw color. No lacing, head lingered a little bit then settled to a nice creamy layer of opaque white.

On the aroma I notice a refreshing subtle sweetness. It doesn’t smell like a lemon much but there is enough similarities that it reminds me of it, I’m guessing the hops. I don’t know maybe like a scone that had some lemon zest in it.

The taste like the nose is refreshing and it reminds me of those water crackers, in their snappiness. But it still also follows the aroma something subtle lemon refreshing.

Mouthfeel is indeed light, but I wouldn’t say thin or watery. It has just enough mouthfeel to avoid that in my opinion. It is a very crisp and clean beer that goes down very easy. The bitterness is so low that you have to try and find it, but it is there.

I think this beer is a perfect day drinking warm weather beer. It’s refreshing enough to quench thirst but it has enough “beer” in it as well.

A side by side in the future @zid store I went to today did not have any original unfortunately. Time to read your post...

I had this at the brewery the day after the release and it was amazing on draught! It's fallen off ever so slightly but still really good. What's impressive is that Tin Barn has only been open since last June - only 10 months. It must be really well capitalized because the space is phenomenal and they've hired really good brewers. They did a collab with D96 called Queen Snake that was off the chart. You can hit some of these southern tier NY breweries (Rushing Duck, Drowned Lands, Tin Barn, Equilibrium, D96) easily when move up north.

I'm not really a huge pastry stout fan, but ... I'm not against the style, either. I'm open-minded, and when a brewery nails it, I'm 100% on board with giving them props. This one nails it.

The one caution I'd offer is that banana - real, pure banana - has a sour note that many might find unpleasant in a beer. It's present here, but I didn't find it remotely unpleasant. But if you're not huge on banana, I could see that as being the reason why.

Dude, this was super good - especially for such a young brewery! I loved the understated but nice can art. Pretty sure I've got at least one more hop bomb from you waiting in the wings - maybe for tonight with dinner prep, maybe tomorrow!

Can't wait to see what you think! IIRC, you've also got another mystery beer waiting around ...

A new (to me) offering from New Glarus — Triple 5.

It is a fairly traditional Belgian style triple, even though it has CORN in it! At any rate it’s a very, very tasty, bottle conditioned brew.

It’s ready to drink now or even after a little bit of age in it... Cheers!

Pours a crystal clear, pale golden coloration with a medium, fluffy head and visible carbonation. Smells of doughy, slightly grainy malt and grassy, floral hops, with a hint of hay.

Taste follows the nose, with a good balance of doughy, slightly grainy malt and grassy, floral hops, as well as hints of honey and hay. Finsihes with a light/medium bitterness and some doughy malt and grassy hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

Sex sells, it's true and how could I pass this up when the label promises that this beer will make me sexy and irresistible? All joking aside, you expect a beer like this to be a lot more about the label than the content, don't you? Honestly though, it's fine, surprisingly drinkable actually. Maybe not great, but absolutely fine with a good balance of malt and hops as well as sweetness and bitterness.

Maybe not all that flavorful, but easy-drinking and refreshing, with a nice body as well, and I'm not talking about the lovely lady on the bottle cap here (ba dum tss)! While I can't really comment on how sexy and irresistible this really made me (as if I needed beer for that, hah), I'd be happy to have this sitting outside on any sunny day of the week, although it may be just a tad too sweet for my personal taste.

Next up for me is another beer courtesy of @Victory_Sabre1973. This one is White Pine Project IPA from Castle Danger.
Aggressive pour resulted in maybe an inch of loosely formed white head that receded quickly leaving behind a thin ring. Light amber in color and mostly clear. Aroma is largely muted. Some floral notes, but for whatever reason, it's very understated. Taste has old school IPA piney notes, with subtle floral / tropical notes underneath. Easy going down.

Welcome to the Midwest. I gotta admit, I had to look up futsal, that was a new one for me!
You picked a dandy liquor store w/ Casanova for your one stop, (closest place to Mpls to grab some NG).
Glad to hear you enjoyed the Drekker. They get mixed reviews on this site, so it's good to hear the IPA is solid. Cheers

Futsal is to soccer as tomato sauce is to tomato paste , more condensed and more intense

the Drekker beer was very well done

Casanova was excellent , friendly knowledgeable staff and helped me curate my purchases . Would definitely visit there again if I am in the area . Would never have known about Casanova or Drekker without BA

This is kind of an interesting can, as all those little hop panels are actually scratch-off fields and the idea is to guess the second hop variety this is brewed with by scratching them off one by one until you get it right.

Atelier der Braukünste - Guess What? (Nelson Sauvin)

New England IPA with Nelson Sauvin and ??? hops (no spoilers!), from Germany (6.9%).

Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus/berry hops, with notes of grapefruit, gooseberry and white grape, with just a hint of pine coming through as well.

Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and juicy, fruity, herbal and resinous hops, with citrus and berry notes of strong grapefruit and lighter gooseberry and white grape, as well as distinct undertones of resinous pine and alpine herbs. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit, gooseberry and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This makes for a very enjoyable New England IPA with a great balance of zesty, slightly acidic citrus/berry and earthy, herbal and resinous notes, while finishing with a good bitterness. I really like the harmony of fruity and herbal/resinous notes to this, which works out really nicely here.

While those scratch-off panels may seem a little gimmicky, it's still a nifty idea that actually makes for a very interesting and humbling experience. The insults from Monkey Island are just a an added bonus. How appropriate, you fight like a cow!
