Those ubiquitous metal barstools and outdoor adirondack chairs are quite possibly the 2 most uncomfortable chairs in the creation of man kind.

For your consideration: any bench that tips up like a dang seesaw if no one is on the other end.

Had a can of DDH heavy mettle and enjoyed it. Excited for my bottle of BA Endless Night and Day after the positive reception here and elsewhere.

DDH Mettle, right? I think DDH Heavy Mettle is one of the last versions of Mettle they haven;t ever released (yet), unless I missed a drop.

Just want to say the outdoor session we had Saturday in Canton for my wife's birthday was great. No forced food purchase before getting our beers - someone we were with actually messed up the nacho order and didn't realize to hit send until our second round of beers arrived. Then when we were hitting the 90-minute maximum mark, a staff member came by and said they aren't filling up right now so we can feel free to stay another 15-20 minutes.

Not much activity on this thread. Is the Trillium magic a thing of the past?

I'm actually going today for the first time since August for Speed Mettle and DDH Green Street. Hoping to be "Wowed". Last couple hauls have been disappointing.

I grabbed some DDH Mettle... it's just too much for me these days. Maybe it's my palette changing but that beer has hop overload to the point of slight burn. On top of that the yeast flavor profile just overpowers any sort of hop characteristics I used to recall.

The pilsner is quite enjoyable though a little pricey for the style

The stouts still really bring it imo but I don't think many here are happy with the current state of their IPAs

Their hoppier IPAs are as good as any for people who really enjoy a hoppy ipa (like me). I got the speed mettle, ddh mettle and ddh green street and all were excellent. I’d say their ipa game has been fairly strong the last year or so.

They are also one of the best breweries for really differentiating the hop flavors between ipas. It’s nice to be able to taste the citra or mosaic or Nelson, etc.

I've been enjoying their daily servings on occasion but nothing else there has really interested me. I feel like they havent done anything new with stouts in a while that isnt an overpriced bottle, and i've never liked their IPAs. For Trillium money i'd rather just go to Fort Point Market and get some new beers i've never tried before.

I’ve been down on trillium for a couple years now unfortunately. I had a few “hot” IPAs and a couple stouts that were off as well. With what it costs and quality being inconsistent imo my money is better spent elsewhere. I really really did enjoy them for a few years too so this makes me sad but there’s lots of high quality offerings out there that I’d prefer to offer my patronage to

100%. This has been my go-to during the pandemic having made 6-8 pickups. Fort Point Market's online ordering and pickup is about as seamless as it gets.

Specific to Trillium, pre-pandemic I had already moved away from buying 4-packs and pivoted to having 1-2 beers on a visit to Fort Point/Fenway.

Considering their markets around Boston I’d say the the posting BA crowd are now the minority crowd and customer. They make amazing beer and will continue to bring in a lot of people. Especially in the city. Their establishments are great and the crowd with the disposable income love the beer garden style of Boston.

But I do think that most that post here are always chasing a new flavor or brewery. It is what it is.

So I ended up picking up DDH Green Street and Speed Mettle. I had Green Street yesterday and really enjoyed it. Issues I've had in the recent past - hop burn, undercarb do not exist with this beer. Sigh of relief.

I will say you really have to be able to handle hop overload - this beer has a strong hop bite to the point where it could be off putting to some.

Fingers crossed on Speed Mettle, but it looks like Trillium has earned a return trip from me this summer. I had taken almost a year off from them due to the issues I mentioned.

This is it exactly. I don't frequent as much as I used to but overall I've been pretty happy with the few ipas i've had over the last year. I know they try to cater to the crowds that always want a new hoppier beer, but I'd rather they stop ddh everything so much. I love / used to love just regular FPPA. Excited to revisit on site as the weather gets better that's for sure.

Man, so hard to keep up. 6 months ago it felt like people were saying Trillium had the best ipa on the block.

edit: 5ish years ago I would've said Trillium brews the best hoppy beers. It's been a very slow roller coaster.

Yeah, they were definitely my favorite at one point. In general I'd say people here are pretty down on them since they changed the yeast in 2018 although off in facebookland there was a lot of excitement for most of the stuff that came out last summer. I still love going there, they have an overall awesome taproom experience regardless of which location, but been a while since I've had anything hoppy from them that I thought was great. They've really gone for the 'must hop as much as possible' crowd which just isn't my bag for NEIPAs.

Is the Canton location the best of the bunch? Was at Fort Point last year and was disappointed. Poor service and attitude galore. Maybe just a bad day but.....?

Would you rather hang out in a suburban industrial park or a fun neighborhood that’s on the waterfront and has great restaurants like Row 34 and is a short walk from the busiest train station in New England?

To be fair if this was around 10 years ago, the "fun neighborhood" description may be more accurate. Fort Point changes so often, but a little over a year ago before Covid they were definitely hitting their yuppie stride alongside the Fenway neighborhood. I probably won't recognize the area once again next time visiting. You can correct me if the massive amount of development I'm seeing is *technically* in the Seaport area.

To get at @TheeWarPig 's point, if you are there for the beer itself and a brewery(TM) experience then I much prefer the Canton location. But for a social experience Trillium Fort Point can be one stop of a night out, it feels like a hopping city bar that happens to pour relatively great beer.

In fact, Canton is going from no bar (little social opportunity) to a freaking overwhelmingly long bar in the near future based on the renderings.

I'm from the midwest thus my asking. It's an annual one day in and out. To answer your question, pass on the industrial park nonsense.

    Row 34? Worth the visit?
