It is on draught at a lot of places in town and I cannot get the spicy hop goodness out of them. Original formula, I sincerely believe, would impress with how hoppy it is vs what we have today.

A bit more, but just as vague as previous comments, on the "Remastered" SABL, from BBC's 2020 Annual Report.

So they couldn't improve on it but they were able to enhance its taste?

Yeah -- what? The answer was no, but we're doing it anyway?

How are you reading that @jesskidden ?

I read it that they couldn't improve the recipe, but they did improve their technique.

That comment seems like a good prompt to remind folks that Mr Koch is a Harvard MBA before he's a brewer. That is A-One, top notch, Ivy League, corporate speak. That is how you bamboozle investors that need to remain wooed.

I can taste the dynamic synergies presented by emerging segments of evolving flavor cohorts, and the subsequent opportunities for underserved palate segments to have their rediscovery enhanced by 21st century techniques of quaffable delivery vectors!

I mean, it just makes sense - if you are going to brew the most authentic version with "enhanced" taste of your great-grandfather's 19th century beer recipe, you'll need 21st century brewing techniques!

I wonder if this means that ALL SABL is now brewed using the "Remastered" brewing techniques but, after the NY State test marketing, they've abandoned labeling it as such?

Yes, there is no doubt that Jim Koch has the skills to be quite the huckster. Having stated that to use an old English saying: the proof is in the pudding. In this context I would recommend you give this new “Remastered” version of Boston Lager a try.

I discussed the new Remastered Boston Lager last month in a New Beer Weekend thread:

One excerpt from the above discussion:

“If Boston Beer Company ever decides to distribute the Remastered Boston Lager to my area I will buy a six-pack (if I can find it fresh).”

    Cheers!

In your picture, the remastered version looks to have some haze that's not evident in the pre-mastered version, and is not something I remember in any glasses of Boston Lager I've had. Did it clear after sitting for a bit?

I’ll never see it I suppose not unless the remastered is adopted as the one. I believe the formula over time years has been tweaked a bit, but not enough to warrant a new sales pitch. But you cant deny that Koch is a marketing wizard, he sets trends and he’s profited handsomely from those skills. Whether you like them or not Hard Seltzer’s are a tremendous seller, and as usual he was upfront, as AB is now joining the fight for market share. But White Claw and Truly have a massive head start so being first is as important as playing catch-up is difficult with the Bud Seltzer’s.

Apparently the 21st Century advanced brewing techniques they mention has led them to a pre-industrial revolution hazy beer.

This entire Remastered marketing campaign was half baked from the start and they have managed to make it twice as ridiculous.

I'm calling Jim right now. What a shit show.

I think the shitshow was mostly our doing here in this now 11 page thread. Last time I searched around the 'net, still not much info on this. Even the Annual Report quote doesn't use the "Remastered" term.

No, it remained a bit hazy throughout.

Perhaps hazy is a process change to cater to the new craft beer drinking crowd!?!

    Cheers!

True, but it is on the bottle labels displayed below the Report quote.

Well, there is the link I provided in my NBW post:

"Jim Koch recently participated in a Q & A session where he discussed Remastered Boston Lager:

“Brewing technology is another interesting place to play when tweaking recipes. In fact, we’re testing what we’re calling a “remastered” version of Boston Lager in New York this winter to match the modern drinker profile. The reformulated brew still uses the original 1984 recipe from my great-great-grandfather, but we’ve evolved our brewing technology and processes to improve the sessionability of this beloved beer. The remastered version is simply an enhanced, crisper version of the original – like hearing a classic song on new speakers.”

True. We really don't let it go I suppose.

Somebody, somewhere in the BBC organization mentioned some of this at the weekly 5th floor marketing meeting.

"Remastered Sam Adams has been a mixed success. Sales are up in New York's Southern Tier. The users at Beer Advocate have a lot of negative things to say."

    Edit
Jim is not answering his phone. Probably on the golf course. Jim if you're reading this, call me.

I bought a six pack. Fittingly from Sam the Beer Man in Binghamton. Not buying again.

But, I did apologize. Like I was buying 4 Loko or something.
