    Harpoon’s The Bick Hig.

Very interesting nose: lots of caramel with a load of leather (in a good way) and frying-in-the-pan maple sausages. Flavor is equally intriguing: lots of caramel maltiness, with a spiciness like cinnamon meets clove (in a good way)...vanilla as it warms. Very creamy mouthfeel. No bitterness or over-carbonation or strange off-flavors like some of the bocks I’ve tried. Nice looking beer, too. Very enjoyable. Cool bottle and waxing if one is inclined to let it sit for a while.

Well, I rated it nearly the same in the end, comparing last year to this year, but some of the individual elements were a little different.

But, I don't have the advantage of having tasted it years ago, so I have no idea if it has declined.

I haven't seen it in a couple of years but originally, I thought it was the cat's meow until I drank the Andechs.

Troegenator is my next bock offering. Vastly different from the Aventinus but very enjoyable nonetheless. Cheers!

You and I have different palates here (not too surprising). The Andechs beer has consistently been on the hairy edge of being too sweet for me. In contrast for Celebrator in the past (and even now) has been much better for me.

But it is all good!

    Cheers!

4.76 to 4.72 my ratings are. Both world class in my book.

@FBarber ...and, yes, it is excellent. I’ve never had Boss Hog VII, but the rye spice in this really starts to amp up as it warms more, and really makes for a complex flavor. So creamy, like there’s oats in the mix. 9% ABV is still single-human consumable, good news, because it’s easy to knock back. It’s good as a sipper and good as a glugger. Store has more...might be good to grab more for the shelf. The bottle is so sexy...as far as a waxed bottle can be!

I’m late to the party tonight. Going with a Doppelbock from HitchHiker Brewing in Pgh.
it’s a pretty good example. Lots of dark fruit and malty richness. Dry chocolate in the flavor and aroma. Hints of booze. Glad I grabbed a 4pk instead of a single. Cheers!

This showed up in one of the stores I usually visit. Never heard of this brewery/beer before

Kaiserbier - Dunkler Bock (6.7% ABV)

Nose is bready with some hints of plum and raisin. Taste is more hoppy, fruity (grapes, cherry) and quite bitter. Roasted coffee and a slightly unpleasant sourness in the end.

    I don't like this!

First post for the Online Bock Tasting. Took me a while to get back to the keyboard, but did get a great photo of the beer on my back porch.
This is a new beer to me and new beer to the BA database!
Tox is a brewery about an hour east of me and one of the founders is a toxicologist, hence the poison dart frog on the label. All the beers are named after things that will probably kill you (ie box jelly, black widow, poppy etc) Which is cool as a science geek!
Definitely need to thank @TongoRad for coordinating this event, which got me to buy some beers I would normally pass by. Still have one more local to get tomorrow.
    Now onto my review!

I am sampling a cold 16 oz can poured into my .5L mug. Picked up the cans at the brewery last week.
the beer pours a clear, deep chestnut to mahogany color with about 1 cm of beige head foaming up and resting on the surface for a bit. This foam eventually fades to nothing, although there are several streams of carbonation rising to the surface of the glass.
Aroma is rich and malty with some toffee and caramel and a definitely nutty character. I dont get any hop character on the nose and in general the aroma is sweeter and pleasant.
First sip reveals a medium body with gentle rolling carbonation and smooth texture. This beer is a little too easy to drink quickly for 7%. Does leave a little stickiness on my lips after each swallow, but otherwise this beer goes down smooth.
Flavor is what the nose advertised to me. I get caramel and toffee, a bit of bready malts and some nutty(walnut) notes on the finish. Again, hops pretty absent and ABV is hidden.
Glad I have 3 more of these cans as the beer is really smooth and enjoyable and is a perfect start to my weekend!
