The old thread had been around for 5 years, and was getting unwieldy so we're kicking off a brand new online beer tasting - Idea Submission Thread.

This thread is where the BA community can come to offer suggestions and input in determining the next online tasting. More recently, these online tastings have been happening roughly every 6-8 weeks here on Beer Advocate (in 2020 we had 7 online tastings throughout the year). The theme or topic of the tasting can be a single beer, a single style, a subset of similar styles, or a particular theme. In recent memory we have had tastings that fit into all of those various parameters. Its a great opportunity for people to hopefully explore beers they may not have been otherwise inclined to explore, to learn more about these beers, to review these beers on BA, and most of all, to have fun and interact with other BAs.

Although we've tried a couple ways to pick the tasting topics, the current method is just general discussion until a general consensus is reached. So jump in here, offer suggestions, offer thoughts and input, and be part of choosing the next topic. And if your suggestion is not picked? Don't worry, there is always the next tasting.

Once a tasting topic is chosen, a weekend will be chosen (again, by general consensus) and then a host will set up a separate tasting thread for the specific tasting.

To get things rolling with this new thread, when we did that poll for people to vote on the next style, dark lagers was the second highest vote getter (after porters), so that should be in consideration for this next tasting.

    @jonphisher also suggested wheat beers:
What say you all? Also keep in mind, this would tentatively be in early to mid June ...

Wheat Beers Wheat Beers Wheat Beers!!! :beers:

For the time of year, many wheat beers are a quintessential indulgence. I know I'll come ready with Hefe, Wit and Weizenbock (if I can find Ayinger).

After three straight tastings of darker and/or stronger styles, I'd suggest going with a lighter/milder style for the next. Pale wheat ales or light lagers (but not pilsner).

I'll begrudgingly admit that wheat beers seems like a good idea for the next one. As far as I can recall I haven't really enjoyed any wheat beer styles much, but these tastings are a great.excuse to learn about styles and revisit ones ive written off earlier in my beer journey.

Let's just keep dark lagers on the map for later this year!

I like the wheat ale idea for late spring/early summer and pale lager (substyles TBD) for the heat of summer.

If wheat includes ALL wheat (x-weizen, wit, x-weisse, American pale & dark wheat, ...) that is a tremendous variety - and availability.

    Should be fun.

A quick head count of what's available for online ordering here shows 70 different beers from 50+ different brewers - of course, that includes Blue Moon and Shock Top .

How about shandy / radler also for summer?

Considering the wide variety of choices within the definition "wheat beers", I agree with this proposal for June.
In my opinion they would come out nice "bombs" (again).

Wheat beers could be good in about 6 weeks! And a pretty wide range would give good access to almost anyone.

Bummed i missed that "barelwyines" event, sounds like an awesome beer style!!:grin::grin:
