This weekend I will be enjoying a bottle of DFH Olde School that I've been aging for a little over a year now. It got me thinking... what are the best beers to cellar??

'The best beers' is more or less a matter of opinion...however I have some Troegs Mad Elf cellared that I am fond of seeing what age does to it. Not sure one way or another but its sure to be interesting

agreed on Olde School. I had my first today, and my first thought was that aging would do wonders. Im not a huge cellar person, so it was a bit absurd for me. It was nice and balanced, but a bit on the sweet side. a bit of age would round it out and make Olde School one hell of a beer.

BCS needs time to mellow out the rough phenol laden edges (and even mroe so for Black OPS).

I gotta throw in Expedition and Narwhal. Both were in the same boat. Super sweet and roasty, yet total mess fresh. I had Expy with a year on it (keg), and it was good. a 3 year old bottle was pure bliss. I expect similar from Narwhal.

Brooklyn Chocolate Stout for sure. Had some older vintages last Christmas from the late 90's/early 00's. Were quite delicious.

I actually think that BCBS, Expedition, and Narwhal are fantastic fresh. I haven't had them with age on them though, so I couldn't say which is better. I guess I would just be surprised if they could top what I already thought was exemplary.

my first aged expy was on draft at a anniversary party at World of Beer in Raleigh, so it was more happenstance than intentional.

Rest assured, I was already cellaring multiples of each beer, but it's tough to have that self control when I already loved what I had.

I'm embarrassed to say that's what wouldn't fit in the fridges. I need to stop buying beer. I need help. LOL

Having no access to Deschutes, I had to order mine through LetsPour. Not a bad deal since I also got five bottles of Firestone for $55 total, but I wish I could have gotten more Abyss.

I, too, have a problem. I think most of us do. My closet is getting full, and my fridge is already literally so full not another beer of any size would fit. It is 95% beer, 5% food in there...
