Both here and in the local trading forums! Love or hate?

I've always hated the more widely accepted concept of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin being considered "Midwest" and lumped in with Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The differences between those two general regions are so vast. People often talk about "Midwest" voters like Ohio and Michigan and it never fails to baffle me.

But I'm curious, what brought about the question here?

Oh, wait, this merger actually already happened. Pfft ha, lol!

Again, I hate it for the broader cultural and regional implications. The proximity of the Great Lakes to the Eastern and NE regions of the country just strike me as ridiculous to use any remotely "Western" label outside of going back in time and living in the colonial era.

But...it doesn't really bother me for the purposes of the forum. Call me a hypocrite, lol!

I agree there should be more regional distinction. I grew up in Michigan, but in no way consider that eastern, so Great Lakes is fine with me.

That's basically why I'm fine with the merge, it's the only reason I "Watched" the Midwest forum as a whole in addition to the GL forum.

I agree, and the way you have described it prevents Minnesota (South Canada) from being associated with either Wisconsin OR Iowa. Win-win.

    Didn't vote, I'm indifferent. It's probably same-old, same-old for me.

I liked having a regional forum that's primarily for states that I could reasonably drive to for a long weekend or short road trip. Now there will be more states that are still well out of reach, and more breweries well out of regional distro networks.

I don’t follow the beer scene (or my other hobbies, frankly) as closely as I did in my thirties, but maybe some whippersnapper has the time to start up a new, Minnesota focused beer website/blog aggregator?

The Growler is fine for what it is, but MNBeer.com has pretty much gone to seed.

    Just my two cents.

    Meh. Potato, Potahto.

Anyone in his income bracket is welcome to share their uninformed opinions, just as any poor ************ like myself is welcome to share theirs. Nobody is absolutely correct.

That’s the beauty of this site.

Bah, there are too many threads that I have to ignore now. I got so confused that I almost clicked on the Mikerphone thread!! Phew, crisis averted, but might not be so lucky next time.
