So you're saying I have to check the thread to initiate it?

So again, I'll have to go page 3 or 4 of the forum to find it. Minor inconvenience, sure, I completely agree with that...but...

...it's still a minor inconvenience without even a minor benefit. And I get it, why is this such a big deal to people?

But based on this thread, the other one, and the poll, I'm in the majority. And second to that people voted as "indifferent".

By far the smallest percentage WANTS this change.

"I should have hyphenated: I meant Mid-Atlantic with MA, not Mass. As in, the majority of Mid-Atlantic posters are NY, NJ and PA."

Ah gotcha, yeah that makes total sense.

    No, you misunderstood the function.

You are alerted to any thread activity when you comment on it or watch it.

If Fox Farm is on page 7, it doesn’t matter. The next time it’s commented on, you are alerted to it.

The alerts turn off when you see an alert and manually decide not to check the thread. They turn back on again when you check the thread.

Again, if you want to be, you are alerted to the Fox Farm thread activity no matter if it’s on page 1 or page 7... meaning you don’t need to check multiple pages and -god forbid- click an extra time.

It’s not a “minor inconvenience,” it appears to me to not be an inconvenience at all. You don’t need to click an extra time even when there are more threads in a sub if you don’t want to.

Without meaning to sound rude it honestly sounds to me like some of this “annoyance” and perceived inconvenience can be boiled down to an unfamiliarity with basic tech functions given BA’s... rather specific demographic lol.

Hey man. I know you live in the suburbs now in your mansion on 30 acres of national parkground with multiple bald eagle nests and a 1/2 mile driveway made entirely of unilock pavers, but show some respect to your fellow BeerAdvocate power users.

I think @Todd is just a madlad and wanted to have all of the forum merger threads to read when things get slow during the day.

    Because:

    a) That makes more work for me. Not a lot more, but more.

    b) I like to scroll and choose what to read, not have it pushed at me via annoying notifications. Maybe I want to skip the Oxbow thread today, maybe not.

    c) It doesn't account for new threads I don't know about, which I now have to scroll through 2-3 times more irrelevant junk to find.

I don't think anyone is claiming this is the end of the world, and I get it, totally a first world problem. But I preferred the old regional setup and see no benefit to the new one.

I’ll agree that of the 100+ breweries in CT, only several deserve regional exposure (by BA standards). Counter Weight, Kent Falls and New England Brewing put out great beers across many styles.

    a) what is the “more work,” specifically? I don’t understand.

    b) that sounds great, now you’ll have more scrolling to do since you like scrolling, even if it now also concerns matters 200miles away instead of just 100miles away?

    c) true, I didn’t account for that. but c’mon... we’re getting to some truly infinitesimal levels of “inconvenience” here if that’s all we have, right? people saying “I’m leaving the site over this hassle!!!” is objectively hilarious given this context... unless I’m missing something?

Multiple people have explained to you why it is in fact a minor inconvenience. You seem upset, for reasons that are unclear to me, that other people don't like something that doesn't bother you. Maybe just be stoked it doesn't bother you. I may have missed it earlier in the thread, but are there things about the change you actually like, or do you just like arguing with strangers about things you seem not to care about?

What I'm loving is the completely natural beefing that's occurring between the "mirror" BAs from the older sub-forums. Now we just need the epic @M-Fox24 v @mrmattosgood showdown.

Also to be fair, would the tap room culture have ever developed if New England IPAs didn't sky rocket craft beers' popularity?

What have you been smoking? Taproom culture existed long before NEIPAs.

    not upset, just... confused lol.

One person tried explaining to me the “extra work,” and it turns out that the work he was referring to seemed to be based on his misunderstand of the “notification” system, which I tried to kindly correct.

It turns out I might not get an answer about what that “extra work” or “actual inconvenience” actually consists of... which is perfectly fine, and about what I expected. I thought I must have been missing something about the cause of this consternation, but maybe not!

And I pointed out one small benefit earlier in the thread (at least from the eyes of those instituting the change), ie people from other regions seeing activity on a thread they wouldn’t have otherwise and deciding to hop in... personally I don’t see this as a huge benefit or anything, and am pretty neutral on the change. I was less neutral on the seemingly bizarre rationale used to complain about it lol, hence me chiming in, but if nobody wants to / can explain I’ll happily back out

Fox Farm is worth 10 great breweries in any other state and they also have OEC, Kent Falls, NEBCO and Counterweight. That's a hell of a starting five. I'd throw in Newsylum and New Park as real solid spots and I haven't had a chance to explore the places that are on the shore.

Had to figure out what you were responding to - but found @AlcahueteJ 's post - yeah I'd have to agree. Although if he meant specifically brewery taprooms, then I think that would be a fair assessment - at least in certain parts of the country. Pre-NEIPA era, there were what - one? two? breweries you could go to in NYC and have a pint. Now I've lost count, and they are almost all driven by the newer all-or-mostly-direct-to-consumer-NEIPA-focused brewery.

Definitely a real solid starting lineup, especially when you add in you could hit 4 of 5 on a road trip without too much trouble.

Pro tip: East Rock in New Haven is pretty solid for German inspired lagers, for your shoreline explorations.

Yeah I don't think this is even arguable.

Putting out even ONE great NEIPA that is regularly on the taps gives any brewery a financial viability that no other beer would give it and I truly don't see that going away anytime soon.

In keeping this thread Fox Farm related, I picked up a trade partner's Witch Meadow bottles and he gave me a couple New Park cans as a thank you. It seems they're slanted towards hazies and fruited berliners like many breweries these days. Really tasty stuff though. I liked them better than the cans from our actual trade.
