You can like it four times if you buy it.

Grabbed some Brucius (Dopplebock) last night. Another good one, I'd put it up against the better German-made versions. A bit caramelly, smoky/toasty, finishes just a bit sweet - hits all the right notes for the style.

I just picked up some of their Feldberg Schwarzbier yesterday, great stuff! I've been so pleased with everything I've had from Schilling, so happy to keep getting more.

Anyone have any insight on the pizza quality at the taproom? Thinking about stopping by on Friday if the weather is nice

As far as I remember, the pizza is great.

I love the chicken, maple bacon pizza. I always worry people say a pizza is good for pub pizza, but the pizza at Schilling is great pizza independent of the already amazing beer.

Not sure what part of MA you're in, but it's definitely head and shoulders above the typical "House of" style that seems to dominate New England, especially down here on the south shore. I would consider it to be above average. The dough was on point and cooked to perfection.

Drinking a Landbier (regular, not the dunkel) at the moment, so good.

The chix/bacon/spinach/maple syrup pizza was indeed delicious, especially paired with a bock (I can't offhand recall the name and it's not on the website right now) and looking out over the river. Tried the Schalen hoppy lager after lunch, and what a beer that was-- nice and crisp, finish was dry as hell. I look forward to heading back in the next couple of months.

Brucius (Doppelbock), Indikator (foedre aged Doppelbock), Winterhammer (pale bock although it’s more amber in color), and Ziegenmensch (Maibock) are all bocks they’ve released recently.

They also have a Weizenbock out called Fabulant.

I’ve had all of them, which means I’m a really cool guy. And a happy guy.

During the online Bock tasting several folks posted about Fabulant:

    @cjgiant posted: “…this beer's personality doesn't truly shine…”.

@JSullivan posted: “…this one was a drain pour for me.”

    Quite different takes vs. yours.

    Cheers!

Schilling is starting to get a little scarce around me and I’m not happy about it. The only seasonal I’ve been able to get recently was the kolsch which was tasty. Fabulent was around but didn’t purchase due to the format and price.

Interesting. Well, different strokes I suppose...I only had the one bottle but I recall it being quite good. Almost picked up another.

Yes, the Fabulant bottle I had was not that great. I also said that I’d be curious to try a bottle now that I know there is a heavy amount of sediment (but I wasn’t going to pay for that opportunity ).

I did like Brucius (and many other non-bock beers from Schilling), so the one lackluster bottle from them is not nearly enough to dissuade me from trying more.

Well, the 'good news' is that a least this beer was not a drain pour for you (vs. JSullivan).

    Cheers!

Oh yes, there was ALOT of sediment in this beer. I swirled and poured and found it added mouthfeel and flavor that I enjoyed if I recall correctly.

But if this isn't something you prefer you can either decant or skip the beer altogether.

And yes, their other Bock-strength beers are very good.

Has anyone had Hemel? I almost picked it up but I already had enough beer. I also hesitated because while Schilling has earned my lager trust, I have no idea how their Witbier chops are.

Isn’t it a Belgian table beer? I enjoyed it, but the Oxbow Rivulet I had recently was what I was hoping for when I cracked the can. It had a pretty hefty mouthfeel for a small beer.

Ah crap, you're right! And I had it recently too.

    I meant Adem.

Adem is “a beer younger me would not have appreciated how perfect it is.”
