I don’t understand golden ales and blonde ales. I find no use for them in my life. I’ve never opened a lager or Kolsch and thought to myself “I wish I was drinking a golden ale right now”

1 exception might be 805 on a golf course

If you've never thought that, there aren't exceptions. There's a time and place for many things, I can definitely understand what it is for a beer like that, and the golf course is a prime example.

Different strokes, different folks. I’ll keep my wings spicy and my beer unadulterated. I don’t understand the idea of spicy beer. To me, I eat spicy food, and wash it away gently with a highly carbonated/refreshing beer. I don’t want to be constantly blasted with heat/spice.

Now this I can agree with! Though - I'd also say you've found another good use for a golden ale!

Pressed Marshmallow is really good in spite of the tugboat coffee. It’s almost all mallow at room temp.

HAH - that made me laugh.
Not a huge fan of the Tugboat, but I love my coffee!

Literally a pile of dirt > Tugboat Coffee

I'm convinced they pay Chicago breweries to use their coffee in beers.

All of the above. I also really like 10 drop in Plainfield, whom Werk Force uses

Metric is my favorite roaster in Chicago, they are putting out beautiful well balanced coffee. According to Metric’s website they worked with hopewell, GI and maplewood on beers in the past, though I haven’t tried any of them.

Here is the real test though - would you take chicory coffee over tugboat coffee?

No, thats kopi luwak - which is coffee beans that are fed to a civet, then harvested from their poop. Haven't had it, but I totally would.

Chicory "coffee" is a drink made from the roasted roots of the chicory plant - its popular in the south, particularly in Louisiana. It gained popularity in the south as a substitute for coffee curing the civil war when they couldn't get real coffee. I've had it and its 1) disgusting and 2) has no caffeine, so is completely pointless.

kopi luwak is delicious, but it is hard to find it sourced from non-force-feeding operations. I think “true” kopi luwak coffee is from naturally occurring and found beans. So don’t feel sad if you haven’t had this... it is fraught.

chicory is wonderful in its own right, and is my favorite example to use when using “ersatz” in a sentence.

I love coffee and would support a ChicagoCoffeeIntelThread to really complete the hostile takeover of the Midwest sub.
