Driving from Los Angeles to SLO. Been a year since I've made the trip. Any interesting breweries/bars/bottle shops along the route open since then?

Liquid Gravity and There Does not Exist in SLO are two breweries that opened right before the pandemic. Both do a great job. Central Coast Brewing is always solid

There is also Humdinger Brewing in Arroyo Grande worth checking out

Agreed on the two new ones in SLO: Liquid Gravity & There Does Not Exist ... and of course you can't pass by Buelton without a stop at Barrelworks!

Not beer-related, but grab a gigantic sandwich at High St. Deli. Goddamn they're good

Firestone Walker Buellton Barrelworks is a must-stop for me when we go pick up our wine clubs. Plenty of Figueroa Mountain brewpubs in the area as well.

How long are you looking to make this trip? You can make a whole weekend out of stops in the Valley and Santa Barbara.

Ryan (most recently from Beachwood Blendery & Lost Abbey, Pizza Port SC) & his wife Jacque (Beachwood BBQ & PP/former Executive Director of OC Brewers Guild) opened Wild Fields Brewhouse in Atascadero about 1.5-2 years ago: https://wildfields.com/https://wildfields.com/

Riven is a good czech-style pilsner & they have a bunch of other really solid beers. Also cans to-go. They serve food & have games for adults & kids. Worth a visit.

Really enjoyed Liquid Gravity. Great patio, nice selection. Standout was the R U Still Down west coast IPA (current hop combo is mosaic and citra). Planned to hit up There Does Not Exist but it closes at 8.

I'm a big time beer guy (drinking a barrel aged stout as i work from home right now.)

But when it comes to the Central Coast, isn't the correct answer "stick with the cabernet sauvignons?"

Maybe if you enjoy wine. Plenty of tasty beer around those parts as well though

Why not do both? When I go to Austin, I don't eat BBQ every meal -- as tempting as that may be.

Casa Agria is in Oxnard. It would be on the way if you’re going the coastal route.
I’ve only had a few of their beers so can’t really vouch for them.
I know some people are big fans.

Paso Robles area is the land of zinfandel. And of course great cabs too. It's actually too hot in Paso for pinot noir, they come out of the southern part of the county and Santa Barbara.
