Interesting Things You've Seen at Breweries

Not a brewery, but the Colorado Renaissance Festival has a trough urinal they keep filled with ice. It's gross.

 

The supposed purpose of the ice is to keep the smell down... something Prohibition era- speakeasies found out when they dumped the previous days ice in them, rather than toss it into the gutter (which was the pre-Pro method) since it would alert the authorities that there was a speakeasy nearby. (Well, the authorities who didn't frequent the place, anyway).

At least, that's the urban legend.

BUT, probably a lot better than what was done during the real Renaissance.

 

Anecdotal at best, but it seems most of the people who visit are trying to reenact the renaissance time period all the way down to personal hygiene.

Here's a sign I spotted outside a pub in Tombstone AZ back in Sept 2016.



It Reads:

Another very clever and funny one

 

Seems a bunch of ice in the urinal would cause the urine to splatter, which would make the smell worse since there would be urine all over the floor.

 

Ever come across a trough on the floor and you just let loose. Always had the weird chemical smell, and I haven’t seen ice in a pisser since the 80s.

 

I think those were meant for spitting chewing tobacco, not peeing. The Brick in Roslyn WA (setting for Northern Exposure) still has one.

 

Cheers to a fresh, original idea for a thread. Next time I see a thread along the lines of "Why can't [x] be a style?" or "Milkshake IPAs are Killing Craft Beer," I'm gonna lose it.

To keep with the theme here, the view of the Boston skyline and part of the harbor from the urinals in the Harpoon bierhall men's room is spectacular. By accident or by design, I wonder?

I see a lot of things that I find interesting in breweries/taprooms because my work brain and training kick in, but this thread isn't goin' that way

 

I was at a bar once (don't remember where) with one-way mirrors on the wall above the urinals. They faced out to the bar, so you could look at the bar and people while peeing. And someone could check their teeth/make-up in that mirror from the other side and they were about 12 inches from your face. Very weird feeling.

 

So, I had to look up the brewery. While on their FB page (no website!?, c'mon now!) there was a picture of the local baseball teams, the Casper Horseheads (do the Corleones own it?) schedule, so I looked up the league. There is another team named the Fremont Moo. I think there is a new hat in my future.
