Greets all, and thank in advance for any suggestions. Looks like Instagram says Monkish is only doing Saturday curbsides as of late, and since I'm flying in from Indiana Thursday morning I'm outta luck there. Headed northeast to spend 3 days in Sequoia and 3 in Death Valley, where I bet beer options will be slim.

Looks like I'm headed north on the 405 to the 5 until just south of Bakersfield, then CA-65 to CA-98 to Three Rivers. Looked at Bakersfield options, but was guessing I'll might have better luck in Santa Clara, Burbank or in LA before I leave town. With a wife that doesn't do beer and an underage daughter, I sadly don't even get to spend the day hunting. Clearly my vacation planning skills need work.

So, who'll throw a knowledge lifeline to a never-been-to-CA Indiana guy in need to a tactical beer strike or two? Your shared wisdom is much appreciated.

The bottle shoppe in sylmar has a really good selection of beer. Handy market in Burbank also has a good selection. Check out their Instagram pages as they both post frequently.

Blackbeards Crafts is just off the 405 north in West LA area. They usually have some good stuff

In Bakersfield, Imbib has a decent selection. You are probably better off just taking highway 99 all the way to 198, and cutting up to Three Rivers/Sequoia through Visalia. In Visalia highly recommend lunch/dinner at Pita Kabob Downtown gastropub...great food and great beer selection. Also Rozi's market (at a Chevron gas station) on Lover's Lane in Visalia has a fantastic beer selection. Way better than anything you would find in Three Rivers or the park itself.

Three rivers brewing is a decent spot with a big back patio area that's great for relaxing after visiting the park. Last time we were there a food truck was serving excellent Mexican food.

Keep in mind the drive from Three Rivers to Grant/Sherman/Congress trail is long and winding with lots of switchbacks. Car sickness can be an issue.

Don't forget to check out Kings Canyon if you get a chance. An equally beautiful part of the park.

    Agreed on kings canyon!

agree to disagree on three rivers brewing! the location and outdoor area are indeed nice but the beer is just straight up bad. Would not recommend.

Fermented-nate, walterfredo, pinballplayer - thanks for the great ideas, especially the food tips and car sickness stuff. Food and not puking seem at least equally important to beer. Very much appreciated.

I know I typed "Santa Clara" above, but that's 3 hours away from where I'll be. I meant to type I'd be driving thru "Santa Clarita" after leaving LAX. Thanks bret27 for the fact check / geography lesson.

If your around for lunch in Visalia, I recommend the Tri-Tip sandwich at BL Quality Meats. I would take a life to have one of those right now.

Side question - how are you planning to get to Death Valley? Make sure you plan on backtracking to 178 or 58, because I think most of the mountain passes are still closed.

Not exactly a bottle shop, but Firestone has a spot near LAX. They might have some DB Parabola left in stock, and several other goodies.

Death Valley actually has two breweries - Death Valley Brewing and Tecopa Brewing. Both of which had decent beer when I went just over a month back.

In Bakersfield I think Bakersfield Beer Co has as good (if not better) beer selection than Imbibe, and there stock tends to be fresher.

Second the rec for Pita Kabob. Also in Visalia the EZ Mart has a really good craft selection.

If they opt for 178 over Walker Pass they'll get to see some really nice Joshua Trees and could also hit Kern River Brewing if inclined for a short detour to Kernville. If they opt for 58 I highly recommend Red House BBQ in Tehachapi.

I guess I’ll hijack this post. I’ll be in LA next weekend. Thursday to Sunday. I’ll be staying close to LAX and I will have a car to move around. I plan on hitting up Highland Park, Beachwood, Bottle Logic, and Monkish to pick up some cans. What are some other must stop spots? Whether it be breweries, beer centric restaurants, bottle shops. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you!

if ur staying near LAX I’d say definitely hit up El Segundo brewing. Green cheek is fantastic (near bottle logic). Other than that, the LA area is so massive it’s hard to give specific recommendations.
