I am not trying to start an argument at all, but what was Indeed called out for? I saw their Facebook post today and I did look through a lot of the Instagram comments regarding sexism, but I never saw Indeed mentioned. I really love the brewery and hope it is a callout of a random employee and not a systemic issue.

While I have ya here, any other MN breweries mentioned?

I've had a very busy work week, so I've not really had a chance to delve into this with the amount of time it deserves, but check out @ratmagnet on Instagram. They've been the person I've seen referenced a bunch as a sort of clearinghouse for the stories of many instances of sexism in the brewing industry. Not sure where Indeed falls into this at the moment, but this is probably where you want to start.

I did go through those. But hard to catch everything and it takes forever.

Nothing Specific … every brewery in the nation has made some statement about sexism and making positive changes in the industry this week.

It all started when an Instagram user asked people for examples of sexism they’ve experienced in the industry and then the floodgates opened.

I am aware. I have now stated twice that I went through the instagram stuff. Indeed's Facebook post makes it sound like they were explicitly called out.

I also now see that Rachel Anderson responded to that post. She was one of the co-founders who seems to have quietly left the company at some point. Sounds like she has a story to tell now.

Thank you! A couple mentions of sexist leadership, paying women less, and a homophobic manager. Sigh. I hope this improves.

Mention of Surly being a nightmare for women, but isn't Surly a nightmare for everyone to work at? I rarely buy from them anymore because of how they treat employees.

At least no MN breweries are as bad as Tired Hands, Modern Times and fucking Shaun Hill.

To be fair, the Modern Times ones seem like a result of them not putting in and enforcing robust policies whereas the other two the owners were actively accused of perpetrating the incidents.

Okay, thanks. I didn't read the Modren Times ones, just saw lots of mentions.

About 4 years or so ago, I remember reading something about the "Boys Club" nature of craft beer. Specifically the beer labels and names (tramp stamp, bitch slap, big tiddy assassin etc). Hopefully actual change will occur going forward, rather than just some lip service.

Somewhat off topic, I'll be curious with many breweries commenting on the industry and need to improve, I wonder how many will still allow /promote Instagram "beer babes" to do free marketing for them holding their beers while showing some skin (for the record, in no way do I accept sexual harassment at all in the beer industry or any industry...just want to make that clear)

Good question. And then how much of this behavior can we put on macro beer who used beer babes for marketing macros in the 90s?

Tom and Nate have some responding to do it sounds like. And a recent post on Indeed’s Facebook page talks about a “drunk Tom” belittling a female customer in front of male employees.

I think all bars, restaurants and liquor stores need to evaluate whether Indeed Brewing is worth having on their tap lines and shelves. Rachel’s story makes me sick.

This is a very sad story to have to read:

Thanks for posting. This is a very interesting perspective, and I encourage others to read and think about it.

What percentage of the company did she own? Just curious what percent of the company she owns as the more she does the more worthwhile it could be to sue for a fair buyout which she could probably crowd source on the momentum of the movement right now.

I'm not doubting her claims of sexism but from a business standpoint there has to be more to this story. She says she was an equal owner so theoretically there's a contract.

    Not necessarily.

Depends on how the company was structured. For example, she may have had no more rights than any other owner of equity in the company (shareholder), and if she owned 1/3 of the stock, she could easily be voted off the board and essentially out of the day to day operation of the company a shareholders vote. As an owner, she may not have had an employment contract.

Interesting read, and am very sad/sorry to hear something like this happened to her, from a company that appeared in public perception to be a champion of acceptance, love, kindness, to all... it's especially terrible.

I'm sure this, along with all the countless stories we've read over the past week or two? Will promote change.

Isn't is strange that it felt like we had crossed a similar, yet different bridge like this last year with Weathered Souls/Marcus Baskerville? How many of these offending breweries took part in the Black is Beautiful campaign?

Call me simple minded, but what's so hard about loving, respecting, and wanting your fellow human beings to flourish along with you?

*I don't mean to, or want to take away from anything that the BiB campaign has accomplished.

There should have been something in the contract specifying what happens with her share of the company in the event she's voted off the board.

She wasn't bought out. She was voted off the board and fired.

    Her shares remain her shares.

Whether there is a market for them, or even if she can legally sell them to anyone other than the other partners, would be spelled out in the incorporation documents.

It would have been helpful for her to discuss that aspect.
