Isn't today the day to pop the Stone Verticals? If so, would love to hear of anyone doing so and how many of them they patiently sat on for years.

    Cheers!

I plan to do a four year vertical today, that's all I have and I am OK with that! I have been sitting on these for only a few months.

I don't have any of them, so I wasn't planning to do a vert today, but a bar near me is doing '06-'12 for a very reasonable price, so I'm pretty stoked about it!

09/09/09 was one of the beers that really sent me off the deep end with all this craft stuff.

almost finished. since I'm doing them alone I only do one a day. Few thoughts: VE02 held up better than I had hoped, VE03 - long my favorite - has faded quite a bit after nearly a decade at 55F, and what seemed like a trainwreck 5.5 years ago is really nice now - VE07.

Supposed to get VE12 tomorrow and can finish this off.

    cheers--

    I had 05-12 last night. Stand outs were 10, 12, 9, and surprisingly 7.

    Michael,

I would have gladly drove up and crashed for 11 days to help you with all of those.

always glad to be of amusement. :sunglasses:
admittedly I'm being fairly kind, but let's not pretend like I had high expectations for the beer. I enjoyed the experience, both the actual beverage and the nostalgia thinking about life back in 2002. I drank one of these almost 10 years ago to the day when graduating with my MBA. Haven't had it in 5 years. Then again I drink a 1975 Thomas Hardy on my birthday every year so I'm used to having one of these "special" old beers where how good the beer is not particularly important to me...

    cheers--

I'll be doing an 07-12 tasting on Dec 20th. VE was got me started aging (I didn't even know you could do that with beer til they told me on the bottle lol). But around 2006 was when I started drinking craft and 2007 was when it got more extreme for me. My problem is that I didn't know about 55 degrees and dark until around late 2009. So my 07-09 weren't kept in anything even bordering on ideal conditions. So we'll see how they turn out. In recent months I have tried 2 different 10's.. one was amazing, so much better than the original (which I and all my friends hated) and one tasted like a mess (I had about 3 stored by me and 3 stored by a friend). So if nothing else it'll be an experience. We are also breaking into some Black Tuesday that night and (depending on how vertical we remain after those) maybe some other cellar stuff.

I don't think 12-12-12 has even made it to Georgia yet, so I guess we are SOL until later... Funny that we are building up to a day over a decade in the making and don't have the final beer to do it.

Whoever remains vertical after 11 beers will have accomplished an epic feat.

I had 02 and 03 side by side a few months ago, both waxed and refrigerated, and I fully agree - liked 02 way better, still had a lot of spiciness. 03 was almost nondescript in comparison.

Will be doing the full flight (02 through 12) today at O'brien's.
