Hello BA’s! Traveling to Minnesota for the first time, will be staying around Duluth. What are some recommended breweries?

Bent Paddle, Hoops, Fitger's, Earth Rider (in Superior, Wisconsin), and Castle Danger (in Two Harbors-- bit further out but definitely worth the trek) are my usual go-to's.

I would add Ursa Minor to this already great list.

Duluth has a lot of breweries to offer. My favorite is probably Hoops. They have many brews on tap to choose from.

And if you're in to hard alcohol, Vikre Distillery has a cocktail room open again.

Castle Danger has a pretty neat taproom, and worth the drive IMO. All things considered, if you're going to Duluth it's well worth your time to travel up the north shore. One of my favorite places in the US. There will be construction on Highway 61 between Knife River and Two Harbors, but you can take the county road 61 Scenic Highway and go around it.

Everybody has mentioned the Breweries. Fitgers is a must (I like the whitefish burger). Hoops is good. very close to Hoops is Canal Park brewery which is ok. Blacklist is ok too

Do not drive around Duluth over the limit blood ABV wise.

Thirsty Pagan in Superior use to be a must stop for me for beer and pizza. I liked the blue collared and anti-theology vibe of the place. Rough and tumble neighborhood but these are my people. Too bad their beer never came back to where it was.

I was there last weekend. Beer was so so. I didn't eat there had a anchor burger instead.
I'm getting old but in someways I still fit in just fine.

I'll echo that Hoops is a must and Fitger's and Bent Paddle are both worth a stop.

Also, stop and get breakfast from the Duluth Grill while you are there.

This is spot on. I have two main places to hit for food there. Thirsty Pagean Pizza which is top 3 on my all-time list...and Anchor Bar for burgers...Top 2 for me...so cheap too...I get the Gallybuster usually (three 1/3 pound patties with cheese for like $8-10 tops)....order the tall beer and you get a pitcher...for like $4...it's a step back in time..7west Taphouse burgers can't hold a candle..

Breweries?? My go to ones are: Hoops, Earth Rider and Fitgers. I lean toard places that prove their chops with quality lagers. I like all beers but lean that way.....well I guess I'm not a big sour, pastry stout or lactose IPA guy but I like most styles....Several others do great stuff like Ursa Minor, Bent Paddle and Castle Danger. The rest in the area are ok..fine...if you stop in you'll enjoy yourself..

I learned a new spot thanks to Cheesehead in MN....Superior Meats....never been there..that will change for me...

Northern Water Smokehaus is also legit...long wait though usually...

I'd also add you can never go wrong with Sammy's Pizza

    Anchor is a must-visit.

The workaround for Northern Waters is to order a sandwich while you're enjoying a beer at Hoops.

Heading to Duluth next weekend; plan to hit Hoops, Bent Paddle & Castle Danger. Are there better breweries to hit? I primarily like Lagers & Stouts.

Hoops for Lagers. Try Ursa Minor very close to Bent Paddle. Fitgers is also a must stop.

If you want to stray across the border, I'd recommend Earth Rider. Strong lager game and their North Tower stout is very good.

    Agree.

    Also agree.

For food, especially pizza. The Thirsty Pagan in Superior is damn good.

Seeing you are from MN I might skip the Castle Danger visit. Unless things have changed they don't really offer anything besides their store offerings. And the taproom is nothing special.
