Had some good brew tonight. I think I am done with beer for the night. Drinking something other.

Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup: (All 3 out of 3 pairs correctly identified blind)

1) Wichita Brewing Company’s WuShock Wheat (4.5%): Picked up while traveling through, a pale wheat beer courtesy of the Wichita State Shockers with creamy orange and lemon flavors. Some citrus with creamsicle and honey. Smooth.

2) Bells’ Oberon (5.8%): A pale wheat ale from Michigan with orange and and dried orange peel flavors. Sort of like a dried orange gummy bear. Finishes dry.

3) Surly’s First Ave +1 (5.1%): A blonde ale from Minnesota that has flavors of lemonflower with a smooth and earthy honey malt finish.

4) Surly’s Hell Lager (5.0%): A zwickel-style beer from Minnesota with strong flowery and yeasty flavors with light lemon notes. A strong, grainy finish, but relatively dry.

5) Hop Valley Stash Panda IPA (6.5%): A hazy beer from Oregon brewed with grapefruit peel that has light flavors of lemon citrus, white grapefruit, and hints of peach. Clean and drinkable. The grapefruit is not very detectable.

6) Sierra Nevada’s Hazy Little Thing (6.7%): A hazy IPA from California that has orange, lemon, citrus, and sweet pineapple flavors. Somewhat juicy, but with a respectable pine flavor.

Winners:

2) Bells Oberon: This one drinks truer to the wheat style with a wheat and dried orange flavor. WuShock wheat was fantastic as well though.

4) Surly Hell Lager: This is one of my favorite beers from Surly. It has a dry wheat and lemonflower flavor while finishing clean and dry.

6) Sierra Nevada's Hazy Little Thing: This beer has grown on me slowly. A hazy and juicy IPA, while also maintaining a piney flavor. Appropriate for Sierra Nevada and a perfect summer beer for those Sierra Nevada pine-heads.

Do you prefer Surly's First Ave or Hell Lager?

Homes Stratum for my post-cigar IPA. Crisp, citrusy, refreshing, and a complex hop profile really make this one for me. I’m about out of my Homes haul from 3 weeks ago. Already planning my next run. Cheers!

I’ve drank enough Oberon this year alone to fill a swimming pool. I can’t stay away from it. They just began distributing a “tropical” version in the last couple weeks. Try that when and if you get a chance.http://www.bellsbeer.com/beer/wheat-series/tropical-oberon

 

Home with an Enjoy By 7-4-2021, not bad but not touching any of the Alchemist, Tree House, Frost beers we hauled back from VT a few weeks back.
