FWIW, if you had good foam retention, it was in spite of the flaked oats, not because of them. There are high in lipids, which are foam negative. But in your browns and stouts, crystal malts and other highly kilned malts would have helped.

kegged up a brut ipa today. it got up to 82 degrees (at least that I saw) so i'm not sure how it's gonna turn out. pretty sure the kolsch yeast fermented cream ale next to it is gonna be full of undesirable esters. oh well.

i don't have room in my house for a fermentation fridge or freezer so i need to invest in a glycol chiller if i wanna brew in the summer and good grief those things are not cheap

silly question but i dont want to start a thread about it:

is a refractometer utterly useless measuring beer that's less than 1 specific gravity? i know you can calculate using preferm brix and such to convert a refrac reading on a finished beer to SG units but it seems to me that wouldn't work if the beer is actually less than 1 SG.

As long as you have original and final readings, and a good refractometer calculator, there's nothing special about a beer that goes below 1.000 SG, i.e. the formulae don't break down.

Do what I did before I had a basement- use yeasts that can stand high temperatures. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that saison and kveik yeasts can do everything, or focus so much on what can't do, focus on what they can. Limitations force creativity.

love it! thanks! i got an empty ferm now and i'll probably run into town tmrw and get a pouch of hornindal and give kveik another try. i was considering just not brewing tmrw but i'd rather make a trip and grab some kviek rather than waste the only day i have free not brewing. good chance to use some of my older grains and just get a little wild and make something up! what's the worst that can happen? I learn something? sounds good!

Brewed up another NEIPA today. This one is going to the Hops in the Hills festival in Maryville TN on the 26th. Hope it turns out good as it will be served alongside my homebrew club members to about 1000 participants. Hit my numbers and didn’t forget anything. Citra/Mosaic/Amarillo hops. Pics when it’s done or I dry hop. I didn’t get brewing pics. It was 5am and I was drinking coffee and focusing lol

Transferred an NEIPA to a keg last night. Noticed some hop burn in the sample I had so will let it condition for another week or two.

Brewing another NEIPA today with a different hop combination - Simcoe, Amarillo and Cascade with all else the same as the prior batch.

Just bottled a mango wheat and everything was spot on. It can't be missing from our annual 4th of July party.
I also sipped on a very early (10 days in the bottle) session IPA and it's tasting great. It's nice, after two of my last three batches failing, to put out a couple of decent beers.

Got my two beers ready for the 4th and probably won't brew again until I get a pumpkin beer going in September.

    Have a good one!
