Didn't AB drop the born on date usage a while ago? I also saw some Mich on a local shelf.

As far as I know all of the born on dates are a thing of the past and all current dates are in some weird formate you would have to do some hard Googling to figure out.

Dunno. Goose Island still has a best by date.

Could be -- Goose being the "craft" segment of the brand, they probably expect the drinkers to demand it. Prolly no Bud (or Mich) drinkers who they expect to care.

It sure does seem like their version of a Julian date, and if it is that would translate to the 84th day of 2021, or late March. Not too shabby.

Many years ago my Mother in Law would bring me back cases of Yeungling Porter from Pottsville, her hometown brewery. She was very nice for sure.

Beer-muling before it was a thing. Your MIL is a great woman. I went to school in Wilkes Barre and Yuengling beers were a staple in every beer store. Not so much on tap though. At the time it was considered a lower tier beer to the Bud-Miller-Coors stuff.

I think that's the point - AB went from using a packaging date (aka their stupid "Born On" terminology ) to a "Best before" dating system.

    which notes that:

Unfortunately, they apparently also give different beers different "shelf life" periods, so you never know.

At this point in my life things have gone full circle from macro to micro and recently I have been revisiting all the major macros. Cold beer on a summer day! Who could complain? Right now I am enjoying what these cold Michelob’s are doing for my well-being . There will always be a place for all types of beers at my table, micro, macro, light, full bodied. As a true beer lover I can really appreciate the big boys ability to turn out a consistent product year after year, and time after time. There is a time for micro and a time for macro and weekends will always be made for Michelob!

I'll be sure to pick some up if I see it. I'm really enjoying going back to AALs every now and then as well, but for me any old example just won't do. As long as they have some hoppy zip to them they'll be welcome in my fridge.

Yes shameful I know , but i have rediscovered Budweiser ..its actually not that bad in this hot weather. Way better then i remember and way better than the likes of PBR. Not sweet and sticky at all. Just below Rainier in my estimation.

But, remember, if you're looking for a AAL, AB's Michelob is a !@#$ rip-off! They took out the adjunct! No rice, no corn, not even the dreaded corn syrup, err, I mean Maltose or Dextrose!
(After trying the "new" All-malt version back in 2007, I said to myself - "OK, they took out the rice but didn't add any more barley malt? And if you're gonna recreate a 1890s US recipe based on the Bohemian pilsners of the period, geez, add some more hops!")

Just 3 measly ingredients* - I mean, c'mon, what kinda craft is that? Take a walk down the fruit and vegetable aisle or check out the spice rack or candy section, AB brewmasters!

    * Yeah, yeah - we know, AB typically doesn't consider "yeast" an actual ingredient in these sorts of lists.

I just remember Michelob being a nice alternative to BMC back in the day.

Not that I would drink it anymore...

Yup. The only way to enjoy a beer akin to the 1896 Michelob is to brew your own. I enjoyed drinking a reconstruction of the 1896 Michelob last evening. Lots of tasty hops in that beer! :yum:

    Cheers!

Many years after stocking the old* and then new -and then even newer- bottles at retail, I finally tried Michelob on draught.

It was at an inauspicious dive (Patrick’s on Larpenteur - now gone), and in the atmosphere of this particularly dim and not un-depressing environment, a fresh pour of Michelob was a true game changer. I mean, this is a place that used to blow-out old, past-code Micros, imports with no apparent expiry date, and all other manner of ill-service (My kinda dive!)

Sure it isn’t a Tannenzäpfle or even a Jever, but for a mainstream, all malt lager fashioned after a Pilsner, and from the biggest and baddest and dumbest of all American breweries? Michelob ain’t half bad. Hell, it’s actually GOOD!

And on tap is where it shines, it’s just too bad that A-B/InBev (or whatever it goes by in 2021!) doesn’t have more of a focus on the brand.

But nowadays there are so many decent Craft Pilsners that it would be fun to do a side by side with “original” Michelob in a bottle, of course.

I just need to get over to Total Domination...

*Yes the shorter ones from the late 1980s with the foil still on top, including the pony bottles! And then they changed to taller bottles and then they changed again to a new look and shape exclusive to the brand.

But all of those changes shook-up the loyal drinkers so badly (especially the loss of the “distinguished” looking foil) that the brand simply withered-away.

Michelob and Corona were the two beers I often drank in the early 1990s before I started on the path of beer enlightenment and discovered the craft brewing scene.

Well, before I left Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, Indiana I cleared out "Beef's Booze Barn" of its remaining "Michelob Original Larger". They only had four 12 packs but they are mine now. They will be drunk through out the summer. It is an American Classic that I have fond memories off. "I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was".
