I think it’s two very different things when you go to a brewery and buy the beer at a premium price directly from them and when you buy it at a package store and it was miss handled by a distributor and/or by the package store. Two very different things. Also good point about bourbon county. I think the point is though the chances of getting a bad beer from Certain brewery is extremely tiny and others it is much more common. Seems like to me treehouse for the price they charge and for you having to pick it up from the brewery it happens too much.

Great point. That is the exact reason why if I have a bad experience with a beer I don’t rate it here on beer advocate and I have a second can to ensure it had nothing to do with my lunch or any other number of factors. My major concern is that a lot of these breweries seem to be sending out entire six packs or more of sub par beer far too often. Treehouse is not the only one. I’m guessing it also has a lot to do with the New England IPA which tends to get weird in cans sometimes because of the fact that it’s got So much sediment and other compounds still in suspension while it’s bottled or canned. I’m guessing it makes it harder to ensure that the beer is going to taste good long-term. I’m pretty sure treehouse isn’t bottling or canning shitty tasting liquid and selling it. They probably bottle it and it taste good but then because of the amount of sediment or other stuff that gets in there it deteriorates or changes flavors very rapidly. I’ve made double IPAs and I do not make them nearly as turbid as most of these breweries. The flavor profile on it changed dramatically from week to week. Had a 5 gallon keg that seemed to be a different beer almost every couple of weeks and again it was nowhere near as turbid as tree houses beers or other breweries.

I get what you're saying, but I've had at least 50-100 pints of Haze and these cans taste terrible. Not saying the whole batch is bad, but at least 6 cans out of it are.

Quadruple shot coconut and also peanut butter today.

100% agree. I believe about 1% of the “bad batch” claims I’ve heard over the years. In my whole life I’ve had exactly one experience where a can of IPA was actually bad, as in oxidized to the point of looking like grayish brown dishwater. According to some BAs it seems to be a problem they encounter regularly.

I had a bad case of HTFGATT from Bissell. Some of the cans weren't as bad as others, but they were all off. They sampled the cans and agreed. Unfortunately I had to drive back there for this to take place but whatever, shit happens. I still love that beer.

Watching Tree House expand their product line and reduce their reliance on external sources for all sorts of products has me wondering when they're going to establish territorial boundaries and declare independence from the Union.

Unless they're trying to fully go off-grid, for which I suppose they'd first need to establish some aluminum reclamation and recycling resources, and bump up the farm's capacity for malt and hop output. Once established, I wonder if community members will be allowed to leave or not.

Just be sure to keep an eye out for the ATF when visiting.

I don’t bother rating beers at all—since I don’t even look at reviews too often anyway, I don’t think adding a review of my own would add too much to the conversation.

I really don't think Tree has particular quality control problems relative to the rest of the class or for the price (especially compared to Trillium, never mind the countless mediocre haze producers throughout New England). And to go to another one of your examples besides the Von Trapp and BCBS, I love NEBCO but two BA IST releases alone have had issues in the past 5 years.

Keep in mind too the post that started this conversation. No one is posting their takes on 2 month old Sea Hags, Hopponious Unions, etc. cause nobody else really cares, especially when it comes to making broad conclusions about those breweries' QC. I think one of the main reasons a person could conclude that Tree House must have particularly iffy quality control is because this thread is one of the most nitpicky on the entire site.

Not to be beat, stutter juice project appears to have only made it one day, in Charlton at least.

Since opening, Charlton has been ridiculously busy. The beers are definitely going much faster than in lockdown times

I imagine you would have to go back years to find a beer lasting only one day. Maybe back to the Wednesday Monson releases.

This is true. It must have been one of those elusive "brewed in Monson" batches that they for some reason they cooked up a few miles away and then loaded onto a truck and drove over to the campus that holds a world class brewing system.

Did Vanilla Bean Truth last more than two days?

I’m OK with people either agreeing or disagreeing with my statement. I just hope no one is silly enough to actually think treehouse is a world-class brewery.

I understand you might not like the product but to make a beer that consistent with that little flavor is a remarkable feat in brewing. If there is any minor flaw in any of those American adjunct lagers they will stand out like a sore thumb.

I'd be interested to know how many readers here think comparing a 150 year old world-wide beer maker to a craft brewery with less than a decade worth of history is silly.

That's fair enough, but let's also strip multiple other breweries from your list of that title as well based on other posters' bad experiences. To pretend otherwise would likewise be silly, no?

And to be extra spicy while we're at it, disqualify Hill Farmstead of any kind of accolade like that as well due to M&C 4 (and 3?), CD Citrus, multiple hoppy beers after the new system ~2015-2016, and Peleg.

Tree House is the largest and perhaps most highly regarded brewer of the most emulated non-macro beer style in America. If they are not a world class brewery, we are saying IPAs are not a style by which world class breweries are made. At one point I may have subscribed to that line of thinking, but I now consider that akin to the idea that pop music cannot be substantive.

Taylor Swift put out two of the best records of 2020, and Tree House is world class. Sahry
