Euro Lagers in the 500 ml cans taste good for up to 9 months, maybe longer imo. I enjoy them enough not to be concerned. Now, do I wish I was drinking them from the OG tap in Europe? Sure. But I am at the end of the line, and set my bar as such. :beers:

I've had Biturger on tap about 100 miles from the source. One of the hoppiest Pils I've ever had (but in a good way, not an IPL way).

I don't think you'll get that experience here from a can no matter how fresh.

And it wasn't like I was at some beautiful venue and it was all in my head...I was in a hotel.

This makes sense. The draft beer in Germany is unpasteurized, surely. The package beer sent to the US is pasteurized, the US kegs likely flash pasteurized. I don't think you'd get the same fresh flavor even from a draft Bit in the US. By the way, I prefer lagers with a bitter flavor and aftertaste, but I'm not a fan of Bitburger. There isn't enough malt body for my taste buds.

There was still that classic hit of Pils malt to my palate. The depth was there despite the hoppy profile.

That's why I said it wasn't an IPL.

The can is the fussball edition! Was it issued for the Euros, or for the Bundesliga? I'm guessing the beer was just standard Bitburger.

Yes just standard Bitburger. I believe it was for the Euros.

Thanks. And Germany is out of Euros, by England. Maybe put down the Bitburger and have some bitter?

If you want to be anything like the English kids these days, you'll drink "loight lahger" anyway.

"That real ale stuff is for the old folks."

Direct quote from some English boys I met in Munich.

Update on the year old Bitburger. My wife took it back for me, they refunded the money and let her keep the 4pk. Nothing fresher on hand in regards to Bitburger. Is there anyone from Michigan in this forum that can say what they usually pay for it around them? At this location it was 7.49 which seems a little steep to me compared to what others are saying. Thanks. I guess I might as well try one anyways since it’s free beer at this point.

Why not. Nothing in that beer will 'hurt' you and the only 'downside' is that it will likely be a less pleasing drinking experience vs. a fresh(er) can.

    Cheers!

Yeah I agree completely. I’m glad I got my money back but I’m still gonna drink it and enjoy what I can. Cheers

That's not a bad price for a 4-pack of import cans -- at least not around here. Be interested to hear Mich. replies.

Ha I ran into some young English guys in Munich too who also said everyone drinks lager.

    It’s a damn shame.

It is -- I discussed beer with these guys until about 3 a.m. -- sitting in our hotel lobby, buying beers from the hotel bar through the desk clerk. Couldn't sway them to seeing the goodness in all beer.

I recently tasted an old Schmidt's Tiger Head Ale that I has "aging" in the basement for the last 35 years. Not a good experience, but no ill effects.

Usually $7.99. I paid $8.99 for a 4 pack of DAB Export once. Considering 4 packs of IPA are 1.5x and 2x in price and sold in 16 oz cans instead of 16.9 oz, I am good with that price point.

Okay so the prices are decent, at least I know that much. @HopHunterCL said 5.99 so I thought it might have been high, obviously not for our neck of the woods. Does anyone know if there is a difference in price point from the Pilsner to the other varieties?

Did they notice the difference between English Lager and German Lager?

The way they talked, they were big German beer drinkers -- and this was a while ago, I don't think there were a lot of English-brewed lagers at the time (are there now?).
