Good write-up if you can get past the fact that it opens up with an incorrect statement! In all seriousness, it sounds like they're calling the 2017 draft VSOJ a "test batch" which maybe is like batch zero. (I forgot it was in FOBAB).

 

haha I know. I drank it on draft on June 14, 2017 at The Beer Cellar. My note at the time referred to it as 20 months in the barrel (not sure if that was correct or not)

It was great feeling to be in the taproom today watching them box up Supermassive Cafe Deth while picking up my VSOJ glass and shirt. Cheers to all that get some VSOJ in cans or on draft.

 

I think what they're going for is that the OG VSOJ was first released in cans in 2018, not that it hadn't existed before that.

Either way, had a can of the 2018 last night (my 2nd to last one!) in prep for next week, and it's still killer. Very curious to see how the new one compares, since (if I read correctly) it's a blend of 2 and 4 (or 2-4?) year beers, and the OG was apparently just a ~2 yr blend.

 

IIRC, which I may not, at the preview event that Rev hosted at the Brew Pub, the 2018 canned version was a blend of between 2-4 year old barrels but minimum was 2 years.

For the pre-sale Tuesday, do we know what time it goes live or will it be surprise announced once it goes live? Any idea when that time window might be? Thanks in advance!

 

It’s been roughly 8:30-9am central, if I remember correctly.

 

I feel like we’ve also seen it at 10am too. Just be ready between 8-10:30am to be safe. AND make a plan to get some of the draft only variants this weekend at either location when you do your pickup.

 

Agreed. Had a single can via Bottles & Cans, and it's easily the best "pastry garbage"* IPA I've tried from them. Which, to be fair, is a very small number; the few hazy / fruited / milkshake style stuff I've tried from Revolution hasn't been very good. And while I liked this, Hop Butcher does it better (at least to plebeians like me)

More interesting, to me, was the Lucia saison; this was a well-made farmhouse brew with notes of lemon, banana, clove & orange peel.

Old world vibes with new world boldness; this is one I'll return to.

Oh man wish one of those places was near me. I’ve had vsoj once in sf at toronado, would love to have it there again. I need vsoj bad!
