Dirt hole is done! Would have gone faster if I had help. Time to level.

Big fan of this lager. Got a can of American Solera Lager also lagered on oak to compare with.

First post Apocalypse Beer Release for Revolution.

Very crowded, by stay for one more or just go elsewhere.

Starting out with XOJ, their special 5 year barrel aged barleywine.

    Revolution XOJ

Brewery description: Batch 1539 has been a component in each iteration of V.S.O.J. since its inception on draft in 2017. Experience now its lean, lumber-laden swan song -- a full five years in the making. Subtly hazy with American oak tannin and fully-oxidized, evaporatively-concentrated malt sugars, this may be the most boldly flavourful English Barleywine we've ever produced. Goodnight, sweet prince. Subtly hazy with American oak tannin and fully-oxidized malt sugars, this may be the most boldly flavourful English Barleywine we've ever produced. Goodnight, sweet prince.

Appearance: 5 oz pour into a plastic cup, beige base, light tan head dissipates quickly. 3.75

    Aroma:
Bold flavorful barrel, sweet white wine, raisins, old wood. Nice. 4.0

    Taste:
Consistent with aroma, though much sweeter. Raisins, plums and vanilla lead, work well of each other. The oak comes through well. As this warms, the booze comes out swinging, the sweetness subsides, very warming. 4.25

Mouthfeel: Lightly dry, sweet up front, more balanced as this warms. Very warm alcohol burn midway through. Syrupy creamy body, no carbonation as expected. This is a heavy hitter, the 16.5% hits you hard, early and often. Raisin boozy aftertaste. 4.25

Overall: This is a solid boozy barley wine, sweeter than I typically enjoy, but works well overall. Will take time for my palate to recover. Unique experience, glad I tried. 4.0

Up now is Einstok Icelandic Arctic Berry Ale. Damned if I know what a bilberry is supposed to taste like, but the beer is sweet and tasty, so there's that. The wheat is hidden in the nose, but shows up in the taste. I rated it 3.93 a healthy chunk above its BA average of 3.71.

Hit DMen for a Chicago Handshake. Never formally ticked Old Style, so away we go!

G Heileman’s Old Style, Brewed by Pabst

    Can notes:
Best by October 11, 2021. Union made, no abv listed, 4.64% per Beer Advocate. $6 paired with Malort shot.

Appearance: 12 oz can poured into plastic cup. Clear pale base, creamy white head lingers for a few minutes leaving generous lacing, mild carbonation. 3.75

    Aroma:
Nice yeast aroma, malty, bread, a bit salty. Pleasant. 3.25

    Taste:
Consistent with aroma and style. Malt, slightly butter corn, salty cracker, yeast. Works well together. 3.5

    Mouthfeel:
Thin, slightly fizzy, light and easy. Slightly dry, faint bitterness. Easy clean finish. 3.0

    Overall:
This is a solid macro offering, light crisp and easy, more flavor than most for the style. Will continue to enjoy, a Chicago standby generation after generation. 3.25

Malort: Another Chicago standby, definitely worth a pour, or several. A wonderful wormwood pour, bitter like me. Will always gravitate toward this, the old style throw in always a nice accompaniment. 5.0

I'm having my 2nd Blanche de Namur of the day. Tell you what, a 500 ml can for $2 is a whale of a deal. The can says, "The World's Best Wheat Beer". I wouldn't go that far, but it is still a proper Belgian Wit and that's enough for me.
