Two breweries in Bayern came up with a Corona Impfstoff-Bier Corona Vaccine-beer that sold out in three hours. As far as I can tell there are three types, 6.0%, 7.5%, and 8.5% double Neipa strong beer. They claim you have to be 18 in Germany (since it's a strong beer, otherwise 16 buying normal beer) to comfortably vaccinate orally and after about four doses you will feel it working. I googled Impfstoff Bier and got advertisements forT-shirts and wine bottles too. Great idea! https://www.br.de/nachrichten/wirts...-koller-bierbrauer-verkauft-impfstoff,SOc4Hqk
In the Rhineland-Pfalz, at least one brewery, Schnorres, has done something similar. I picked up a bottle of "Schnorres Schluckimpfung 'Saison Lager'" or Schnorres Oral Vaccination Saison Lager on my last trip in June.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who read through the posts and had no clue what was going on. So they're just Covid vaccine themed?
They just brewed a normal beer and called it was a Covid vaccine, my Gold Ochsen seems to have kept me vaccinated during this circus. It was a joke and people thought it was funny.
But is it effective against the delta variant?! Somehow I feel like a beer joking about being a vaccine would not go over well in the states
Who knows, people in Germany are tired of the lockdowns and since it sold out within 3 hours they thought it was funny. The brewery is not far from Würzberg, Ansbach, and Bamberg for the folks stationed in those locations over the years.
Back in February, Brauerei Kraus in Hirschaid (just south of Bamberg) sold "Imfstöffla" You were supposed to drink two bottles
Its odd to me that I haven't seen/heard anything like this in the US but its apparently a thing in Germany. Any idea if these sorts of humorous marketing takes are going on in other countries in Europe? Are other products using these approaches in germany?
it's probably mainly in franconia because there are quite a few beers there with the word "Stoff" in them (urstoff, etc). and since the word for vaccine is Impfstoff, the pun is kinda natural/easily understood.
Back earlier this year when the story hit, there wasn't enough vaccine for everybody that wanted the Corona shot so they may have made fun of that, vaccinate with beer. Since then, those that want to get vaccinated are getting appointments as far as I can tell. Corona sort of went away from the news and the flooding has taken its place on pages 1 - 3 in the newspapers. We got a lot of rain at my house but everything is dry inside. Many were not so lucky.
...the first big outbreak of covid in bacaria was in mitterteich...and it happened because the local brewery hösl had a starkbierfest and advertised it as "Schluckimpfung",so... i don't find beers marketed this way funny at all.
I actually ran across one of these beers the other day, and decided to buy one. I went for the 8.5% version, since I'd rather over- (than under...) dose. Yes, it's gimmicky, but it is also actually surprisingly good! Hertl & Munich Brew Mafia Impfstoff Überdosis TDH NEIPA (Ekuanot, Vic Secret & Centennial) Pours a cloudy dark yellow with excellent, long-lasting head. Flavor is quite dank, but mixes in some tropical notes as well. Bit of pineapple and pine tar, touches of cough syrup, but there is also some maracuja/mango sort of stuff going on in here. It’s an interesting mix of hops. I have to admit, I am a sucker for Vic Secret and it is definitely present and noticeable, which helps immensely. Mouthfeel is fine, thick enough, but I actually would prefer it even a touch more hefty. There is a hint of bitterness, but it melds into the Vic Secret hops and adds rather than detracts from the beer. As for the malt backbone, honey malt and biscuit are probably the primary notes, and there is enough to stand up to the very aggressive hops. Overall, since I have never been overly impressed by either brewery, this is actually much better than expected. I wish I had bought a second as a “booster” shot.
