    Hey Guys,

Curious as to know if anyone has had the Batch 1 Adam that HotD has for consumption on site only? It goes for $75 or so and I just have not had aged Adam to know if it is really that much better or not? Adam ftw is pretty good but it is just hard to imagine having a beer that was brewed in 1994. Just curious to see what the oldest vintage of Adam anyone has had and whether or not it was fantastic or not.

I have also contemplated going in with someone on a bottle of Adam Batch 1. But the $75 price tag always scares me away.

The oldest Adam I've had was from 2008. I actually had it this year, so it was 4 years old at time. It was super leathery and smoky. I can't imagine what a 17 year old Adam would taste like. I'm curious myself.

Broken down cardboard, soy sauce, and some rusty yeast.

I've heard other people have had better bottles, but I don't believe them.

    That sounds pretty awful :grimacing:

I can now add your description to my list of reasons not to throw down on a bottle of Adam B1.

The heavily ironic portion is that even though the beer isn't any good, I still use the picture of the bottle as a background on my phone.

My friend has a Batch 7 Adam. We're most likely going to trade it though. Not too much interest in drinking that one.

I thought it was delicious. Best Barleywine I've ever had.

I think Arbitrator posted somewhere saying it was way over the hill. That guy has probably drank more Adam than the rest of the site combined, so I would trust him. Not sure if I'm mis-remembering, though.

Would you happen to know which beers of theirs (besides Dave/Eve) are still holding up well from the 90's?

I've had it and have 3 other bottles of it, they are more collectibles unfortunately at this point, or maybe something fun for a tasting. I last had it in Sep 08 and it was past prime, too oxidized for me then, so I am sure it is not getting better.

I have also heard reports of folks having it at the pub and enjoying it, and also have doubt in my mind, but to each his own I guess.

I am a huge hotd fan, have had plenty of Adam and have lots of batches cellared, one of my all time favorite breweries and beers, so I wish this wasn't the case, but thats how it was for me.

How do Fred and Doggy Claws age compared to Adam? It seems like Adam is the only one people talk about aging. I have the opportunity to pick up some vintage HOTD and am kind of wondering if I should focus on Fred and Adam or spread my money out amongst the three.

For a minute I thought you were talking about Dark Lord, but the sentence was missing "and excessive amounts of brown sugar"

Saying Dave is holding up well might be a stretch from what I have heard, there are rumors, nay legends, of someone drain pouring their taster of Dave:slight_smile:

i had 2006 doggie claws on tap a few months ago. it was nothing extraordinary, sweet, pretty mellow. worth trying but i'd bet a 2006 adam tastes better.

If you haven't had aged Adam, I can say that it ages at least a few years very well (it's probably my favourite beer to age), and is worth seeking out if you don't have some in the cellar (there are at least a couple of places around town that sell aged bottles). Having said that, every beer will wind up "over the hill" at some point, and I'm not surprised to hear that batch 1 has gone well beyond that point.

Very close -- I haven't tried Adam batch 1, but I explained why I think it's over the hill.

That post also includes a link to a vertical I did, with an Adam batch 26 purchased from the brewery -- way over the hill.

Adam's a regular in my fridge. He and I are good pals.
