Hello yet again. I was in St. Paul for part of the day helping my very good friends pack up their van and trailer for their move to Montana. Damn, I still can't believe we got their 600lb gun safe on the trailer. I hope the 5 cases of Yuengling I also brought will be able to help them bribe their friends and neighbors out there to help unload it.

After a few hours of that I made a trip to Wisconsin to get a few brews, and avoid the road work on I-94 back home. So I had fun at Oliphant Brewing in Somerset, and Trap Rock in St. Croix Falls. I've probably been to Oliphant around 30 times (even though I live an hour and a half away), but haven't been there since early 2020. This is my 2nd visit to Trap Rock, but not the last.

Now I'm home, I'm really enjoying a couple of beers I brought back. I really enjoyed the thing I brought back from Oliphant, but it's not in the rules for the site to post the seltzer (it went down stupid fast), so, here's the beer I'm now enjoying from Trap Rock.

Monarch - Trap Rock Brewing - St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin - IPA - 6.7% ABV - 32oz crawler.

The 32oz format is a double edged sword for me. It is very good, but also, sometimes, way too much. This is probably way too much for me, but I'm liking it.

This is more of an old school, west coast IPA. There's no citrus, or juice here. There's a decent pine hop flavor here. This flavor continues throughout.

Now, that all being said, there's also a lot of malts here, that have a biscuit flavor. This flavor cuts the hops a bit. I'd say more than a bit. I'd like a total pine bomb, but, if you're not too sure about that, this might be a good compromise. There's pine hops, but also a good amount of malt.

This beer looks like an old school IPA. It pours a clear amber color. There's a 3 finger white head to the beer. The head retention is decent, as is the lacing on the glass.
The nose really has an old school aroma to it. I get a decent amount of pine in the aroma from the hops.
The flavor has a lot of pine in it from the hops, very much like an old school IPA, and the flavor does linger. That being said, there's also a decent malt bill here, that produces a biscuit sweetness that cuts the pine hops a bit. Not totally, but probably more than they should for a more traditional IPA.
The body is pretty good. The hops do cling a bit, but not too long.
This is a good beer. I'd like a more pine hop flavor that punches you in the face, but, this is a more approachable traditional IPA for those who aren't total hop heads.
Also, I do like the can art of this crawler. That's what really made me buy it. The buck walking through the pine trees really hit home for me.

    Maybe another? Not sure.

Great to see a lead in post from @lordofthewiens - Been a long time! Kind of ironic, too, in that we were in Kittery yesterday for lunch at When Pigs Fly. Passed by York Landing - packed as usual. On our way to Week 1 of vacation in Windsor on Highland Lake. Very nice house, good water at the shore, kayaks, etc. Got out for a few casts and hooked two gorgeous largemouth about two to three pounds before the mosquitos got hungrier than the fish...promising start. And I still had my beer to finish after getting a line in the water...yay!

    Tonight's brew is interesting.

Proclamation Wien. It is a Vienna lager brewed with cab sav and zinfandel grapes. The can picture isn't very good, but I thought the beer looked cool.

It's just a tiny bit hazy, a rich tarnished like my oldest trombone red brass color with a slightly brighter red tint if you catch it right. The head filled the glass briefly, then fell to a ring and eventually vanished.

The smell...hmmm...very nice balance. The malts are in no way hidden by the wine notes contributed by the grapes. Nice sweet malt smell, earthy grape must, then some pleasing wine aromas. Hops are light and grassy, malt is bread and slightly like toast. Maybe a little sweetness.

The taste certainly has some sweetness to it that is tempered by the wine-like grape providing a tart balance. It isn't sour, just a nice sweet and acidic balance. The Vienna lager isn't hiding here either. Bread dough malt holds its own, grassy hops play on top. There is a definite earthy presence that reminds me of grape must in even pomace that I picked up in the smell. This is no let's throw some grapes in with a Vienna lager mashup. This is a nicely balanced brew where all the components play nice in the sandbox and compliment one another.

The feel is medium maybe tending toward light. Not highly carbonated yet crisp and clean. A very light honey sweetness lingers.

This is a nice beer and I am pleased with the result of a random oh doesn't this sound interesting can grab. It isn't super complex and is quite straightforward, but it is extremely well-crafted and highlights the components rather than just forcing them together. Somewhat north of 4.0. The remainder of the glass will tell me how far north. I think the base beer hits the style points adequately and are nicely complimented by the grape trestment.

Strawberry Wheat - Laughing Sun Brewing - Bismarck, ND - 4.7% ABV.

I am liking this beer, and I'm so happy my friend picked this up for me on his vacation in South Dakota. He also got the proper glass several years back when he stopped at their old tap room in downtown Bismarck.

This beer pours a murky light golden color. There's a decent 2 finger white head to this beer poured from the can. The head retention is ok, but not the best. There's just a slight bit of lacing on the glass.
The nose has a nice strawberry aroma. This aroma is also backed up by a "wheat" beer aroma (cloves, banana).
Taste - There's a lot of strawberry up front, and the strawberry continues throughout. The backside has hints of a wheat beer flavor. I get cloves and banana mixed in. These flavors aren't strong, but there.
The body is lighter, but this is expected. Somewhat crisp feeling, and a bit bubbly.
This is a very easy drinking beer with a good amount of flavor.

See you all down the road.

Thin Brewing's BBA Peanut Butter Jenkins Imperial Stout, 14.4% ABV, 4.13 overall. Thanks to @micada

Pours an effervescent mahogany with a thing caramel colored head. Viscous, no head retention or lacing

S: Tons of peanuts, some boozeyness, great nose

T: Peanuts, dryness, a touch of boozey Bourbon, dark chocolate, plus a little caramel up front. Cocoa Powder sweetness/dryness, peanut butter & some Bourbon boozeyness once warm. Finishes sweet & powdery dry with a boozey Reese's Peanut flavor that almost made me happy

MF: Medium body, low carbonation warming

Solid, but had higher hopes for this. Certainly a sipper
