Yikes! I had 'brewery' on my brain after doing that exercise earlier this evening looking only at breweries. I should have said German-inspired places to include the bars and restaurants too.

Probably all of the places on the spreadsheet have some non-German beer and food items (if an eatery), and it became a judgement call whether to add some of them based on minimal info available on websites, social media, etc. I discovered during this exercise tonight that I listed a place that is not even open yet. I don't know what was on my mind when I added it, but at least I added a remark to check Facebook for its open status. I'll have to recoup some of my list's credibility by reviewing that one, and will probably delete it if it's not open yet.

The Bavarian Bierhaus in Glendale is a brewery. Maybe it wasn’t at one time, but it is now—unless they’re telling tall tales on their website.

Okay, it looks good on the website, facebook, etc. and will keep it's 'Brewery' category.

Advocate! @PapaGoose03 is out here doing the work. That's a great list, and when you factor in the lager handicap its not hard to see the gems. Those breweries breaking that 3.85 number can almost certainly pour you a fine beer. Still hoping that this lager renaissance makes it to my region. For any of you prospective lager brewers out there, the cool coastal climate of californias north coast will save you big bucks on temp controls for your fermentation and lagering. And this is a very popular tourist destination for central European tourists (they seem to have a particular affinity for the redwoods, plus we are near the American "alps" so that seems to draw some).

Yeah, if you see I edited my post (long before you replied, don't get it), I was thinking of the old Bierhall that used to be at Heidelberg Park.

You know, two and two weren't adding up in my brain when I was looking at that and I just couldn't figure out why I was looking at that. (It was a long day.) So now I know that I'm not going crazy. Thanks for the clarification.

I stand by my report of Delafield -- not really German-themed. Great place, been there many times; good food and beer. Just more classic brew-pub than Bierhall.

Yikes again! I simply forgot to look at that one again after your post. I'll check it out later today.

It definitely fits your "great place to have a beer" niche, and their Maibock is really good if you go in the spring.

[IMG] Pretty good. 106th day of 2020 so over a year old. Flavors are a bit muted but no bad tastes to speak of. First dopplebock to ever grace these lips. I’m impressed with it. Smells of caramel, cola, bread, and alcohol. Taste follows suit with a toasted crackery malt flavor with some honey notes as well a subtle hop back end. Very smooth. Cheers.

Since it's your first ever Doppelbock (wish I remembered mine), thought I'd share my impressions:

I appreciate that! Looks like we picked up a lot of the same notes, I’m just not nearly as good at describing them. And yeah, “hops” I’m sure JK will get me on that one if he reads this.:wink:. Reading your review though definitely helped me pick out some of the more subtly flavors that I was getting but couldn’t put a finger on. I guess that’s what the reviews are for.

Now read Todd's for that "religious experience."

:joy:I saw that one. Is it because mines over a year old that I didn’t have that religious experience??

That's quite possible, and probably why you mention "muted flavors." But I'm more surprised you found a clear date on a Merchant du Vin import.

Welp, hope you're prepared for the upcoming ride down the rabbit hole. :beers:
Granted, it's a fun and tasty ride, but once you have a great one, you'll spend time and $$$ trying to recapture the experience!

I agree with you that this place is not a German experience. I searched the original thread and could not find when it was suggested, so I'm guessing that if I look back in my notes that I'll discover that this one was added by me after mining the names in the BA database when I searched on the word 'brewhaus' and got this one. It's a nice-looking building and beer garden that could have been a good start for a German-inspired brewery/eatery, but alas, it didn't happen. I'm going to pull it from the spreadsheet.
