August 1st... And apparently also so the the Oktoberfest begins! I saw Sam Adams Oktoberfest on the shelf today. A little scary because embarassingly I also still see festbiers/Oktoberfests from 2020 still sitting on the shelves (...Bitburger).
I had to make sure the Sam Adams was from this year. Careful what you buy folks!

Whoa, I'm definitely in for at least one of these (but maybe a few, great pack for gatherings and what not). SA, if you're reading I used to purchase your seasonal packs religiously when they were six different beers but still continued when you moved to four but then I completely gave them up once they basically became four easily obtainable shelf beers. But this is swinging back to your roots a bit and I love to see it!

Biological acidification sounds like Sauergut, which is used by many German brewers to adjust pH in the mash and end of boil.

I hear ya! I’m now considered an old fart, too lol. I’m 35 in December. All down hill from here :beers:

(btw, I was more poking fun at the age of Sam Adams Octoberfest, less so than you personally…Spaten Ur-Marzen is one of my favorites, wish I got to enjoy it “back in the day” as you were able to!)

Did you get a chance to enjoy Spaten prior to the sale to InBev (which later became AB InBev)?

    Cheers!

I don’t believe so, unfortunately. What year was that roughly? I turned 21 on 12/31/07. The oldest Spaten packaging I remember is when they came in 500ml bottles with the foil around the neck/cap

I should have mentioned Interbrew in my prior post:

“The Spaten-Löwenbräu-Gruppe was sold in 2003 to Interbrew.”

Then later came InBev and then AB InBev.

    Cheers!

    Yeah I missed out. Bummer.

On the subject of German beer, I was “lucky” enough to get to try Lowenbraü before they stoped importing it but at the time I wasn’t very impressed. I thought it tasted like your standard mass produced euro pale lager (I.e Beck’s), though from what I’ve heard it was a shadow of its former self by then. Another bummer.

    I remember 35.

    Wait, no I don't.

I collected some old bottles of Spaten Okto from the early 90s -- for the right trade, they could be yours!

I'll be buying the seasonal pack. The samplers with Sam 76 and Boston Lager must have done poorly, which suits me just fine.

If I buy a pack it will be the seasonal.

Neither märzen nor amber appear on the label so here's hoping (darn, no fingers crossed emoji)

About two years ago, the Sam Adams Octoberfest seemed to be formulated differently. It was lighter bodied and less malty, I thought it was truly excellent. Maybe that was the origin of the new Festbier? I certainly hope so!

Grabbed a pack today at Kroger along with a six pack of a tasty local Oktoberfest. Forget Christmas...fall is the most wonderful time of the year...:stuck_out_tongue:

Sam’s Oktoberfest is always a fall staple that I’ve gotta have a few of each year. This year I do want to branch out and try more of the style this year!

Edit: just saw their sweater weather pack above and that’s gotta be one of the best mixed packs yet. One core beer and other perfect seasonals.
