Hooray! It's 2009 again!

 

Not sure if that is a compliment or the opposite. Asking for a friend.

 

Those Alpine IPAs of old basically ruined my ability to genuinely laugh and enjoy most other IPAs for a good 5 years. With the exception of the occasional RR or Pizza Port IPA, nothing compared. And the tap takeovers at O'Briens were legendary. I remember on one of my two trips there just being amazed at the selection and realizing that what would be a mob scene and planned event on the east coast (where I lived at the time) was simply Thursday afternoon in San Diego. The beer scene has grown tremendously since then, but I have the fondest of memories of drinking there.

I half imagine Pat holding a glass of hazy IPA and muttering to himself "kids these days"

 

I’m fairly sure it was a compliment.
That old school Nelson was great.

 

Anything new on the board from when they opened?

 

Some of those first night of SDBW events at Obriens with Alpine will be a life long memory for me. I would say from 06/07 to when they sold to GF they were the #1 brewery in SD hands down.

 

What happened in June of 2007?

 

2006 or 2007. That general time frame not that date specific.

 

I guess I read that wrong. I was wondering if maybe it had something to do with when Nelson was first available.

 

They started making that beer around that time, one of the reasons I made the first comment. When Nelson was done right it was top 5 beers of all time for me. But they did make a couple turds in there so there is that. But I also remember one really wet winter where the well was full all winter and they made a Bad Boy that was the greatest beer I ever had from them. Cheers.

 

Mac’s posted on Facebook today that they are emptying their first Bourbon barrels after 6 months, and that they are making a Russian Imperial Stout. Release date is Dec 18th.

 

They should call it Thor's Corvid or something

 

Please excuse my language, but I just had a serious mind fuck. The new Nelson beer is called Muntz because Nelson Muntz from the Simpsons. My god, what is life?
