At least they didn't claim it was "Italian"

Speaking of our human robot discussion the other day, they indeed market a New Zealand Pilsner (I think it’s called Rango) and of course an Italian one as well…

How long do you think until:

"Maybe invent a new Pilsner sub-style like a Philly Pilsner brewed with South Philly soft pretzels?"

I express the same frustrations and concerns of adding another IPA, but I also really do enjoy the New Zealand hop varieties.
Ultimately, I could definitely see this becoming a new flavor trend. A unique addition to the IPA style. Maybe it's a bad idea, but I'd drink some NZIPAs because I like the flavors.

That reminds me of Cooper's from Adelaide. I many and some at the brewery. It was an ale but colored like that, and not like Yuengling. I Know that beer would please me like the visual does.

Wave? Hahahah, thats cute but probably not. Nelson Sauvin among other varietals certainly is enjoyable but besides the occasional one-off I don't think it's a style we're going to see predominantly.

When did Sierra Nevada first brew Southern Hemisphere Harvest? Had to be close to 20 years ago.

This beer has not been available for quite some time so I (and others?) forgot all about it.

My guess is that it was first brewed in 2008 (that was when this beer was added to BA).

    Cheers!

Astro-Lab around here markets some beers as NZ Pilsner. Essentially, dry-hopped German Pils (I know you hate the short hand of Italian Pils) using NZ hops.

Pretty good. They tend to use the varieties that are derived from noble hop parentage. Hints of tropical fruit and sweet citrus to go along with the herbal/floral component.

I try to avoid calling things a "gimmick" and I won't break that general rule here. But I view these as just another temporary "bump" centered around a particular locale's hop bounty, not a harbinger of a new style like the NEIPA. Not even a sub-set like the WCIPA. They're IPA's with some different hops.
