I had HDHC Hopshowers on draft at fort point yesterday, and it definitely had a hop burn astringency on the finish. The Mrs had Bierpop and complained about the burn as well.
I think at some point they are going to have to address the lack of head retention and the hop burn, especially on their big beers.

I've had a few of the recent collabs as well. Panicle was the worst of the bunch, but wasn't bad or undrinkable by any means. I really enjoyed Bierpop! and thought it was one of their better beers as of late. Hip Hop was good, but not nearly as good as last year.

Overall I continue to be pleased with Trillium, but as I have admitted many times here I have a warped palate that wants hop overload and am not a fan of Tree House at all.

It's getting harder and harder to tell what's a drinking glass and what's a bong these days

You drank out of a butt plug? Seems appropriate for a Trillium beer...

Pretty much standard fare for the big beers at Trillium. Raw hop particles in suspension is the burn and excessive hop oils kills head. Apparently a lot of folks dig it. Let the cans sit for a month and don't pour the dregs. Of course there's Treehouse if you want something more "balanced".

Or VSB without the long drive and wait. That would be my choice.

The wait can be a lot longer at Vitamin Sea, considering they are only open 3 days a week.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t get beer to go, as my beer fridge is pretty full already, and the beer to go at trillium didn’t interest me…..and I’ve had plenty of treehouse, and some people, including my wife would say I’ve had too much!

Drinking a Showers now and the hop burn is real. Even after almost two weeks in the can.

    Then again,

The hop burn I taste is nothing compared to the tooth enamel ripping I longed for in 2005 slugging ipa’s in San Diego.

if you remember this, you’ll agree.

I’ll take some fruity hop burn. I just hope some of these releases and feedback can help rein that in.

I do love a good West Coast IPA. Sixpoint's Resin was always a beer I enjoyed. Haven't seen that around in a while. The bite is different in those beers though. A strong bitterness never created that spicy/burning feeling at the back of my throat.

Respectfully disagree. It's a different thing entirely.

Visited the new Canton Trillium this afternoon. Minor outside complaints are that there seems to be too many parking lot sections for no great reason (confusing), and all the Curbside Pickup signs lead to a parking lot where you have to just get out and go inside anyway. There is no Curbside Pickup, not today anyway.

Came for Hip Hop Ref. I generally love everything Hoppy Trillium from Mettle and Heavy Mettle on up, through the Streets and Headroom and Legroom, etc. All the monsters, they still put out great stuff.

That said, not the greatest, IHHRA. Not trash, God no, just not special in the way a beer in this class should be. More than smoothly drinkable though. That in itself is a feat.

I'll be back for Raspberry TTDS next time that appears. Trillium is still great at things, but it's not the things I loved them for in the beginning. Things change over the years, and Trillium has done great stuff with dessert stouts and fruity beers. For example, Razz TTDS is way better than any IPA they are now putting out, by a country mile. Shit, it's better than almost anything I can think of.

JC more or less confirmed no Headroom this year on Facebook due to supply issues with galaxy. Cited it was also explanation for the absence of Congress, Vicinity and other galaxy beers lately. Bummer..

Interesting. I'm curious whether supply issues means "we can't get any" or "this isn't good enough." I would think that Trillium, with those beers, would have some contracted out...

I have heard from a brewer that the 2021 crop of galaxy is the best in a while. Only time will tell.

The gist was they haven’t received their 2021 allotments yet due to global logistic issues. Here is a direct quote from JC:

“Still haven't received 2021 galaxy samples to be able to say which way the next year or so is going to go (and none of my brewer-friends have either)”
