It could go either way, but I’d say usually in favor of the brewer. An example, I might give a new brewer a notch higher score in a category because I’m expecting less and my expectations are exceeded. It’s not always conscious, but I notice sometimes a local beer has the same or higher score than a beer I think is better. It’s also sort of the reverse effect of how people might be more critical of a hyped beer (something I’m not immune to, either, now that I think of it).

[IMG] Blade & Branch pours a very attractive near pitch black, with a solid finger plus mocha head that settles really quick leaving little lace. 4

Aroma deep dark chocolate, toasted coconut, char, vanilla bean, molasses, and bourbon. 4.25

Taste follows dark chocolate, coconut, char, vanilla, molasses, and bourbon really balanced coconut might be most dominant. 4.25

Mouthfeel is above average, a tad dry, soft carbonation, and at 10.5% it drinks slightly bigger, but goes down rather easy because of how complex it is. 4.25

Overall this is a damn fine BA Stout, I wish it had a tad more body and retention on the pour, but I think this is pretty damn good stout. 4.25

HA! Then I can be a knucklehead too - I can understand the nuance of the variant from the dry hopping technique, but it isn't really a style. I tasted their conventional German pilsner and the alleged Italian pilsner side by side, half pours, so certainly enough to get a good read. They shared more than they differ. The main distinction was the hops in the Italian variant were significantly brighter, more lemony. The malt was slightly sweeter and a bit more rich, but far from malt heavy. I can see it as a variation on the theme, but not a distinct style. I guess they have to call it something, and at least it is an homage to what seems to be the parent beer.

Its the untappd equivalent of "liking" a post - you "toast" someone's check-in to a beer.
All of my reviews here are entered on the site - so they're there. I just don't find them particularly helpful, but maybe I will start adding them in my posts for those who do like to see them.

And I get what you're saying. I'm guilty of this sometimes - wherein I said a beer was one of the ugliest beers I'd ever seen and give it like a 3 or something ... :joy: probably should have gone lower, but I hemmed and hawed and never did. @cjgiant

If Im being honest, I am a generous rater and even my median rating rDev is -0.8%.

And those are the two most important aspects in my opinion. If you enjoy this beer you should buy it again(s) and drink with gusto.

If perchance you are asking me about this beer's style it sure appears to be a German Pilsner with dry hopping to me but that is simply by reading about it. Nothing like actually drinking a beer to know with more certainty.

    Cheers!

And that is were the brewery is 'adopting' some marketing.

How do you know when a marketing person is lying?

I am pretty sure you know the answer to that question.

    Cheers!

    Hello Late Night NBW.
Too much going on to give any updates. Thankfully, there is new beer.

Every Day Is Record Store Day by Henhouse IPA

Collab (of sorts) with The Last Record Store, Santa Rosa, CA.
    Canned 06.10.21
Brewed with Mosaic, Cashmere & Idaho 7 hops.
Slightly hazy straw to muted gold in color. Fluffy white head with some solid layers of clumpy lacing.
Nose is melon, grapefruit, mango, mellow citrus, and a slightly herbal pine note.
Flavor follows the nose nicely. Slightly herbal, grassy, citrus, with notes of apricot, melon, lime, and a smooth malt base.
Mouthfeel is light to medium, good carbonation, and a smooth finish that allows the malt to shine a bit.
Overall, very nice. Not sure what the grain bill is, but it does nod in the direction of an NEIPA.

    All right, I'm back again.

I'm not going to lie, I had a lot of new beers today over in the land of cheese and Lambeau with my good friend Garrett. I've been to 3 of the 4 places we went to today, but there were a lot of new beers there that I so enjoyed, but didn't review. We both had a blast, and I know we both will be going back to those places yet again in the future.

But, now on to my new beer, and one I picked up at Casanova Liquors in Hudson.
Four Years Of Slow Beer - 1840 Brewing - Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Imperial (Triple) IPA - 10.7% ABV. I had to add it to the BA database.

First off, I'm not going to lie, it was VERY tough walking out of Casanova without blowing $400, or so. There were so many beers there that I would have loved to have bought. Everywhere I looked, I was sorely tempted. That is one hell of a dangerous store for me to visit, and Garrett as well was so tempted to blow a shit ton of money there.

    - News Flash - They DON'T have Blanton's there, per the sign on the building.

I behaved and just got this beer, and a 4 pack of The Wolf from 3 Sheeps.

    So how is it?

Well, I'm very happy with this beer. I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit burnt out from the "hazy" IPA style. Don't get me wrong, I still like them, but I may have had too many. They all seem to blend together lately. This one seems to break away from the pack a bit. It's a "hazy" but, to me, has a bit more to offer in flavor, and I'm happy I bought it, plus, it's a first from that brewery for me.

Pours a very hazy, murky, dank looking pineapple juice color. There's no clarity to this beer at all. The head is slightly off white, a hint of yellow to it. The head retention is pretty good, and there's a good amount of lacing to this beer.
The aroma is a good tropical aroma. I get the big 3 - Mango, pineapple, and grapefruit.
Taste - There's a good amount of mango in this beer, backed up by the grapefruit, and pineapple.
The body of this beer is super "soft" feeling. It is super juicy feeling. I also get a resin like sticky feeling from the hops as well.
This is a very good beer for the style, and I'm glad I picked this up at Casanova Liquors.

Maybe one more? I'll know in a bit.

Beachwood BBQ Barrelogenesis this evening. Tasty Barleyine.
    Cheers all!
    2021 Vintage

Appearance: Medium-brown with a slight reddish hue, with a medium-sized beige head that quickly faded. Nothing wrong with the appearance.

Smell: Brown sugar aromas and bourbon aromas dominate the nose. The nose is true to form for an English style barleywine and there's definitely nothing wrong with that.

Taste: The taste profile features moderate bourbon notes, caramel/toffee notes, brown sugar and a touch of vanilla notes from the barrel. I also get some mild oak woodiness from the barrel aging. The beer has just a initial touch of sweetness that subside to a semi dry finish. The beer avoids being overly sweet like some English style barleywines.

Mouth-feel: On the light side of medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation. not bad for the style but could be a touch thicker.

Overall: A good English style barleywine that has a flavor profile that ticks all the right boxes. This one is up there with all the major players for the style. Beachwood represents my home town very well.

All right, this will be it for me tonight, and the weekend. It's also in "proper" glassware

Theresa's Sunshine - Wheat Ale - Lazy Monk Brewing - Eau Claire, Wisconsin - 5.4% ABV.

Yeah, this is a good way to end. Crisp and easy drinking. It wasn't hot today, where we were at, and it wasn't hot when we got back to central MN, but I could see myself crushing these on a hot summer day.

This beer pours like a NEIPA, though it isn't. It pours very hazy and murky. The head is 2 finger, and white. The head retention is good, and there's a good amount of lacing on the glass.
The nose has a bit of a standard "wheat" aroma. There's banana and cloves here. There's a bit more as well. There's a bit of tropical citrus here, not in a IPA style, but there.
Taste - Banana and cloves is the start. There's also strawberry - which I didn't really get on the nose. There's also a bit of citrus I get, as well.
    Easy drinking. Crisp feeling.
Solid beer, and a good beer to drink on a hot day.

See you all down the road.
