Nah, it's just friendly ball-bustin' at the on-line bar. No blood, no foul.

Ah, I don't pick up on sarcasm online. Thanks for the clarification :grimacing:

I don't really expect the tasting threads to move to WBAYDN, just making conversation, but...

In my experience, WBAYDN regulars want more posts and more participation. The thread used to regularly exceed 20 pages. Now it's about half that. Inviting people to test out the virtual bar via a "tasting day" could be a fun experiment.

That said, I was surprised to learn that people were annoyed by cross-posting, so what do I know?

Yes, trying to mandate that people only drink a certain style would be insanely stupid. My thought is: if someone wants to drink an Oktoberfest on "Oktoberfest Day," they're encourage to do that on WBAYDN, including a review, some banter, a song, whatever. If they want to drink a SNPA or a BCBS or a Miller High Life or some other beer, that's fine, too.

I was kidding about the "limiting likes" and "eliminating cross-posting" bit, as I'm not bothered by cross-posting or like-seeking — but for the percentage of BAs who do dislike the trends, merging threads is a simple solution.

That would just make the tasting thread a giant mess and would eliminate a lot of the things that I (and I suspect others) like about the specific style tasting threads.

Maybe some.of the wbaydn regulars could encourage some themed add on to spice it up a bit? I don't know, I've never been able to get into the wbaydn spirit so I don't presume to have any meaningful input. But it would be a loss t the tasting threads to try to cram them into that busy thread

My suggestion would be to just leave it be, but make the point to our community, using discussions like this, that the more we all get into the habit of cross-posting to every applicable thread, the more they'll all become indistinguishable. It's asking a lot of our members to scroll through 9 pages of posts on a cellphone when they've seen half of them before. That can't be good for site sustainability, and that's the point.

Doesn't matter to me as I view it all as conversation.

I visit this site to have conversation with other beer drinkers so the more conversation opportunity the better. I'm in favor of broadening posts rather than restricting them.

Just a quick note - when was the WBAYDN thread regularly exceeding 20 pages? I looked back and 5-7 years ago it was hitting 10 pages a day. Doesn't seem like it has changed much in the past 10 years - maybe a couple of pages less these days.

    I didn't vote because my opinion wasn't a choice.
I have no problem with a cross post between, say NBW & WBAYDN, if the poster writes a different forum related narrative for each post (eg review & thoughts for a beer on NBW & the usual chit-chat and a video for that same beer on WBAYDN).

I do have issues when the cross posts are simply cut & paste of each other. Those sorts of posts distract from the forum's feel & purpose.

Some time since I joined BA. There was this whole period when folks used to complain that the thread was only hitting 13/14 pages a day, unlike a year or two prior, and we started doing “#20” to try to reach 20 pages on days when the thread had some momentum going by early afternoon. #10 seems like a good showing nowadays. Many of the regulars from those days have long since switched to other platforms.

WBAYDN is less than 9 years old. Before that, the only 'general chatting' thread was LNBA, which started around 8pm eastern time. I've only really been joining it for the last couple years, but I don't seem to recall it hitting 20 pages. Shrug.

You distrustful bastards made me go look it up.

Searching for "#20" didn't work because that's apparently too short a phrase, but "twenty pages" easily turned up some. Check out the thread from 11/12/16, which was 22 pages, or 8/27/16, which was 23 pages.

No respect that the old timers remember shit right. It's like talking to my teenager with some of youse.

    Hence the “BB” .

Every once in a while I lose my sense of humor, and one of the best remedies is someone calling me out.

My wife can do it silently, with just a twinkle in her eye. It feels good to laugh at myself just after realizing I lost my shit over nothing.
