Haven't been to TH in months but might be able to make it out there soon, are they still doing car orders exclusively or is it back to the standard waiting in line and filling out a little paper card for beers?

The thing I'm still not clear on is whether it's exclusively online orders that you pick up or if it's cards filled out per person like it used to be in addition to that. Is it like a hybrid of their curbside and normal operation in that you have to place the beer order through the site before going, or can you just place individual orders for different beers in person like you could in the past?

It only lays out the ordering process for picking up an online order, but it also says Charlton is "fully open with draft and beer to go" which to me implies that they have returned to their standard operational model.

I am lost in a purgatory of semantic pedantry and thus have no idea what they're saying exactly.

All ordering is done via the web whether you order when you get there or beforehand.

    It’s explained here: https://treehousebrew.com/order-beer

You can only order beer to go and draft tickets for Charlton online. You can order ahead of time, or after you have a draft or two…if you want to sample some of their beers first before ordering.
It’s a really simple and efficient process. My advice would be to go, and talk to their staff in person and they’ll be more than happy to explain how it works to you.

I was just as confused as you. I didn’t find their website to be super clear and it’s not a simple process, but I’ll try from experience.

    1) Order your cans online. Only way to order. Click the Charlton location on the can order page.
    2) Order your draft tickets online. Only way to order. Follow the random breadcrumbs on their site to eventually take you to that page. It is separate from the can page.
    3) Head to TH pass up the bar collecting dust for no reason and head to the other functioning bar. Someone will come over and ask for your ID and give you a wristband. Tell that person you have a can order and give them the number. They will call it in and your cans will be ready when you are done with draft.
    4) Get to the bar and give them your name. They will look up your draft ticket order. Despite the wording on their site you don’t have to get all your tickets redeemed at one time. If you don’t, the bartender will give you a physical ticket or two to come back and redeem.
    5) Before leaving head to the back of the brewery where the “CANS” neon sign is. Give them your can order number again and wait there and they will bring your cans out.

Note if you are going with anyone else they will need to order draft tickets separately as the page does not let you put any more than the single daily limit in your cart. At least it didn’t when I went a few weeks ago.

The paper cards are gone forever, it seems, along with ordering specific quantities of beer you want. New way has got to be way more streamlined for them, and certainly they are not hurting for business. Definitely not a hybrid system in the way you described -- all orders are done exclusively online (either before you get there or on-site), then you pick up the cans in the building. It isn't true curbside, more like your typical in-store pickup.

The only way I found to order drink tickets for two people was to order both the pair of drink tickets and two single tickets at the same time. This was the only part of the process I found annoying as if you are going with multiple people and want to keep it to one order you cannot get enough draft tickets for everyone. Not the biggest deal but certainly something they could make easier. They mark the number of beers you have on the bracelet anyway so you still would not get 6 or 8 pours...

Restaurants too. Not to mention fully charged phones. And functioning QR code scanners.

All those scenarios and more have hit us at least once in the past 3 months. GFs phone just suddenly stopped scanning QR codes after an update one day. My Pixel 3's battery dies after like 5 hours from being fully charged. Not to mention we were way remote in the Southwest for a good week and a half and my data was right on the edge, so I keeping my phone in airplane mode. On top of all that, when we got back and went to Fat Head's, the parents couldn't for the life of them read a menu on their phone. Thankfully they still had paper menus, but only gave the table 1 to share.

It's great for ordering ahead or for pickup, but honestly, the online menus aren't so convenient when you're on site. It's not as pleasant, attractive, personable, and they often suck formatting wise, requiring you to constantly zoom and move, and sometimes even forcing you to download a full ass pdf to your phone's files. I'm looking forward to the viruses restaurants start spreading to their patrons. It's only that much worse at a fine dining restaurant, with everyone just buried in their phones for a menu that is chock full of unique or complex word combinations that are written in the tiniest cursive font.

I hate having to be on my phone when I'm out with friends trying to enjoy a drink or a meal. I haven't been to TH since they reopened for pours. If getting tickets and seeing a menu requires paying attention to my phone rather than the company I'm in, then my interest in drinking beers at TH diminishes a lot.

I have to say it's very strange for a company whose branding emphasizes romance, togetherness, connection, and mindfulness (as someone pointed out above) to force us out of the space we're trying to enjoy and into our own little electronic worlds to order a beer. I'm sure it doesn't bother some people, but it sure bothers me. The moment I pull out my phone I'm transported back to the world of work emails and breaking news alerts: precisely the world I'm trying to escape for a couple hours when I go out to have a beer with people I love. All that beautiful prose on the cans about the present moment, the company of those you love, etc. must not apply anymore. Would it kill them to accept cash and offer a paper menu?

I didn't know it was possible to have a plan without unlimited data anymore. Do you still buy minutes???

The irony. Of course I know what you meant, computer viruses. But all of this was done when no one knew if THE virus was spreading by surface contact. And many patrons (I witnessed this many times) wouldn't touch menus.

Now that science knows more about THE virus; that it's not spreadable by surface contact, I really hope more establishments stop with the performative stuff. I agree QR menus are terrible and hope they go away soon. But several breweries and restaurants I've been to say they are going to keep using the QR codes and/or online ordering because it's operationally easier. And because the entire industry is short staffed. I get it, but ugh.

What makes you say that? The big carriers have been marketing unlimited data plans for years now. I'm on AT&T, and it's cheaper to have an unlimited shared plan than it is to have a 4GB shared plan.

Tree House's draft system was already draconian before everything switched to using their website. The 2 drink limit practically screamed we want you to buy your cans and leave. Is having to use your phone to choose what you want from a menu really that much of a deal breaker? You place your order and then put your phone away. Am I missing something?

I'm not sure what you consider a "big" carrier, but I'd hazard a guess that Verizon just might, maybe, possibly be one of them, which is my carrier. I'm on my own plan. It's definitely cheaper to have 2GB by myself, by a long shot. I've still never gone over in I don't know how many years.

And what makes me say he's on his parents plan is that has no clue what plans are even available to them as an option. Clearly they've never shopped, never compared prices, and never even looked at a cell phone bill in their entire life.

So you're old? Oh, and poor

Let me just make a bunch of nonsense assumptions about you based on nothing.

Anyway, enough with the negative nancy nonsense. That only brings us into a life of misery that only people like Sabtos know and seem to love. Those of us that enjoy our lives (successful ones at that) should continue to talk about beer. Specifically Tree House beer which is what this forum thread is for. Not the fact that over 63% of cellular users have unlimited data plans.

Big hitters today, my last trip up was good but a little bit of a letdown, especially since I was buying beers to trade with someone on here. Everything worked out well, though. Has anyone had King Creamsicle? I'm wondering if it's just a sweet gimmick or actually a quality drinkable beer?
