In the room working on today’s daily trial report, drinking “Super Snake AF” an NE TIPA :

This beer tastes and feels great! A new brewery to me, but I’m in! Not overwhelming on feel, and the juicy citrus notes are tasty.

Just confirmed shoulder MRI for Monday. It’s funny, I’ve tried icing and hot showers for pain relief, and the first thing that has worked is immersion in the hot whirlpool here at the hotel…I hope my trial goes all week! Cheers!

...this was another BA LagerFest beer that I didn't get to until this afternoon...it's frickin' delicious...

...this has been an interesting day: animal death, missed appointments (not me, my riding partner), good bicycle rides, interesting Turner Classic Movies movies, and general everyday living...

...regarding the animal deaths, the first was seeing a young rabbit struck by a car while I started my bicycle ride. At first, I thought it might survive its injuries and was hoping my wife could swing by with the car, a box, and blankets and we could take it to an emergency vet, but it succumbed to its trauma...the best I could do was move it off the street and into a bushy area while stroking its head and back during its final moments...then my former boss informed me that he had to put down one of his English mastiff's...Koda was a sweetheart but developed a bad bone cancer in one of her forelegs...and this was the second of his English mastiffs he had to put down this year...I'm glad to have taken a road trip with him several months back to Hays, KS so when he picked up two pure-bred sister English mastiffs...it's sobering when confronted with death, but so it goes...

...here's a picture of Koda and Cara in 2017 (Cara, a Cane Corso mastiff, passed away last year)...

#2, there’s a lot going on with this beer, with chocolate, coconut, banana (yes, banana), and roasty espresso flavors somehow fitting together to produce a rich, creamy, decadent imperial stout. Exceptionally well done by the folks at Bare Hands.

Brewing Projekt Smoofee Sour Blackberry/Raspberry/Banana/Guava, 8.7% ABV. Pours extremely thick purple, not even sure it all came out of the can, one-finger pink head that left puree residue. Nose is blackberry, raspberry, and banana. Taste follows with raspberry and blackberry up front, and banana in the close, quite sweet moderately tart. Couldn't find the Guava. Excellent thick and smooth mouthfeel, overall world-class.

My "assistant" was curious but eventually decided to leave me all of it. When I was posting this, I noted I had left the spray butter out. We've been having corn-on-the-cob two nights a week, real good. Our son sent us instructions for nuking them, perfect every time, and you don't lose flavor like you can boiling it. When done you just squeeze it out of the husk, and no strings.

[IMG] Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup: (All 3 out of 3 pairs correctly matched blind)

    1) Stella Artois Lager (5.0%): A European pale lager that has flavors of light bread malts, yeast, with smooth lemonflower that is overpowered by light-struck skunky flavors.
    versus
    2) Brass Foundry Angry Loon Lager (5.4%): An American lager from Minnesota with flavors of orange/lemon citrus, tropical stonefruit, and a crisp pale malt finish. A hoppy lager.

    3) Lift Bridge Farmgirl (New style - 5.5%): A new take on the saison with citrus and melon.flavors and Belgian spices removed. No melon here and still tastes Belgian to me.
    versus
    4) Josephsbrau Pilsner (5.4%): A Czech-style Pilsner from Trader Joe’s with smooth flavors of bread, yeast, and some Bread spice. An average pilsner.

    5) Lagunitas Stereohopic V1 (7.2%): This is the Volume One IPA brewed with Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin hops to give it a citrus, and lychee flavor. Oxidation here and some caramel malt finish.
    versus
    6) Fulton 300 IPA (7.0%): An IPA from Minnesota brewed with Mosaic that has flavors of overripe pineapple and dinosaur melon. Resinous tropical melon. Caramel and traces of cinnamon on the finish.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) Brass Foundry Angry Loon Lager
: This one has a nice fruity and hoppy profile. Probably drinks more similar to an IPL. Stella was way to skunked and light-struck today.

    3) Lift Bridge Farmgirl: For being a new and improved beer with citrus and melon, it sure tastes like the same old FarmGirl with Belgian spices of clove and coriander. Still tasteful in my opinion, but what has changed here?

    6) Fulton 300 IPA:
This one has a stronger and more Mosaic hop quality. Also more fresh with probably helps it take the win. Stereohopic V1 is pretty old and oxidized by now.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you tried the new Lift Bridge Farm Girl and do you think it drinks different than the original?
Have you tried Lagunitas Stereohopic V1 and what is your cutoff date for drinking an IPA?

Ron (my former boss) loves mastiffs. He tells all his customers (he's sells bird seed and yard decor on his property) that he loves large dogs because he doesn't have to bend down to pet them (Ron will be 80 this Halloween).

Cara was especially interesting to me. A cane corso is very protective of its people and property. I had just started a few days when a customer wanted to know about a bird bath or fountain on the property. So we went out to check on things, and when we walked by Ron's house, he was tapping on his storm door for help. He had slipped and fallen and couldn't get up (there's a commercial in there somewhere). Well, Ron is a big man, 6' 2" or so and nearly 250#. I couldn't help him up. He told me not to call 911 (to which I agreed to) and, of course, immediately excused myself from the customer and called 911.

So the emergency folks arrive, see Cara (with her huge head and jaws, and tell me I need to control her. And I'm thinking, I just met her and she doesn't know me (or the EMTs). Luckily, I gave her a stick to chew on the previous day, so I think I was in her good graces.

And that's how it played out. I held her and talked to her while the EMTs checked on Ron (he was okay, just a bruised hip and no hospitalization needed).

And the whole point of things is that all of Ron's English mastiffs and his cane corso were beautiful dogs, loyal and dedicated. Gentle giants, really. Just don't cross them...

And I'm glad I went to Hays, KS with Ron earlier this year where he got two English mastiff pups. The pups are now about four months old, around 40 pounds, and should keep the old man content for years to come.

Here's a pic from June 11th, right after we got back from Hays with the pups, and they're meeting Koda for the first time...Ron is the old, bearded guy...
