Over the past year or so, I'm seeing more of a trend to 500ML from 750ML bottles which were more common. Not my preference, but what makes it even worse to me, I have seen prices at $23-$25 per bottle. We all need our fix, but I'm not buying. Are you? Why the trend?

Yeah, and my "pound" of coffee is now 12 oz, and price is higher.

Better buckle up. It's gonna get worse.

Maybe you are in the wine or spirits section of the store?

I haven't noticed this trend at all. Raising the price when changing the packaging has been going on for a long time.

The trend I have been noticing over the past few years is more and more beers in the four-pack/16 ounce can format. You get less beer (64 ounces vs. 72 ounces for the six-pack/12 ounce format) at an elevated price.

Cheers to those breweries who still package in the six-pack/12 ounce format!

Haven’t noticed this, any examples (breweries…?)

Prices are going up though it’s for sure a trend… not gonna change that.

I'm generally not a fan of that size in the US. They fall into a weird area where they're slightly too large for one person but slightly too small as a splitter between two people. At least considering most beers in that format tend to be special items over here. I think it's great for buying a crate of something super drinkable, but that's not really how things usually work over here.

Kane in NJ has transitioned to mostly all 500 ml from 750 ml. Their bottles have been running 16-20$ for a single 500 ml bottle :money_mouth:

Melvin has been doing some limited releases in 500mL bottles as of late too. I believe the barleywine was ~$15. I didn't price out the others since neither were styles / flavors I prefer.

Yes bring back the 12oz serving, most always i dont want a pint and would rather have just 12 ounces regardless of price. Would rather have 4PKS of 12oz, if needed.

Funny, I find the 500ml to be the sweet spot in splitting a bottle for 2 shorty pours.

The price of beer in general, well, good beer anyway, is at the point where I need to start cutting back on my purchases. Of course everyone has their own budget to go by, so what works for one doesn't necessarily work for others.

I dropped about $400 last month on beer, and have been spending similar amounts for a while. That's way too much as it relates to my financial situation. I'll be purchasing less beer in general, and more of what I do purchase will be in 6 pack 12 Oz form. A 20 + dollar 4 pack will be more of a once or twice a month treat from now on.

Those that can afford the big bucks bottles and cans, I was in your shoes, but that's the way it goes. Enjoy!

The upcoming Starry Noche release from Weldwerks at $32/500ml would really give you nightmares!

The only stuff I ever see from Kane is on tap or in 4 packs. Guess the brews your talking about are brewery only,

What would be the point of doing that? Driving up the price

I feel like this format discussion has to be on a case-by-case basis, particularly when it comes to purchasing from a brewery directly or from a store. For sales of bottles in breweries I've never tried, I might end up preferring 500s because it's less total out of pocket to try something even if the price per oz might be worse. And in other brewery cases, I think sometimes the debate comes down to 375 vs 500, and I'll take the latter in many cases (like with Hill Farmstead).

On the other hand, I've detested Maine Brewing Company's 500 ml format on beer store shelves for nearly a decade now. That being said I'd still probably prefer 500 ml bottles (or 16 oz cans) to the bad old days of the early to mid 2010s when it seemed like every brewery outside of the likes of Sierra was putting every new beer in bombers.
