We are going to brew an IPA next, and its been a few years. What hops should we be looking for for late kettle and dry hopping for a really tropical flavor?

Citra was our go to, but I am guessing there are even more crazy varieties now.

And it still should be in combination with other hops like Mosaic, El Dorado and if you can find high quality Galaxy.

Needless to say there are new hop varieties coming out every year but will they be 'better' than the hop varieties I mentioned above?

Other BAs will provide their opinions in this thread I am sure.

    Cheers!

Edit: one other way you can 'experiment' here is using different 'format' of hops. For example use cryo-hops of the varieties mentioned above in the dry hop.

A guy at a beer shop recently told me about Yakima Cryo Pop. Here's from the website:
'Because Cryo Pop™ pellets have already been engineered with specific component ratios in mind, they can be used for 100% of the hop bill as an all-in-one solution for brewers desiring juicy peach, pineapple, grapefruit, and daiquiri-like aromas. They provide such powerful and dynamic aroma and flavor profiles that they can create a robust “single hop” beer with the use of one hop blend.'

The beer I had with it was very good. Wish I could get the hop.
I second Jack Horzempa on Mosaic and especially Galaxy. I've gotten big pineapple notes from Galaxy. If you like bold coconut, there"s always Sabro (I personally don"t like this hop).

I’m the odd guy out cause I really dislike mosaic.

    citra, galaxy, simco, work well.

I have gotten lemon from dry hopping nugget and grapefruit with cascade.

I get raw vegetable and sometimes soap from Mosaic. Really narrows the list when I'm picking IPAs.

Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, Strata, Simcoe, Nelson, Nectaron, Rakau, El Dorado, moutere, Idaho7, Bru-1, Vic Secret, Ekuanot, Simcoe, and the new hotness HBC586.

All can be very fruit forward/juicy depending on the lot and how you use it.

Columbus in conjunction with Citra throws a lot of orange and grapefruit flesh along with the mango from the Citra.

For commercially brewed beers that feature Columbus for end of boil and/or dry hopping I typically pick up dank/weed aroma/flavor. I am not a fan of dank so I personally shy away from using Columbus for aroma additions. Do you ever pick up dank in your homebrews where you use Columbus?

    Cheers!

Never got dank from any of my homebrews, but I may be blind to the aromas and flavors. I haven't picked up dank in a VERY long time in any format.

I wish I could make that same claim. Maybe I am sensitive to dank?

    Cheers!

P.S. Some folks seem to enjoy dank aroma/flavor.

Ended up doing 1oz Magum for bittering, 60m 1oz Citra, 1oz Galaxy both at 5m.

Bought 1LB of El dorado 2021 crop leaf, going to do at least 2oz dry hop in the keg.
