Good day BAs! Another damp cool morning here on the tundra of NW PA - nothing planned for the day cuz it's Thursday = Laundry Day! Amazing how no one bothers me when I do laundry (or dishes) - I love it! Today's Breakfast Beer as I continue cleaning out my beer reefer:

Not my favorite beer from my local (about five weeks a year) brewery. Still, not bad - 2019 vintage.

Good morning BAs! The dogs have been walked and fed…coffee time - Founders Bottle Shop Series, “Nemesis”, a Barleywine style ale:

Bottled 3/8/21. Poured at 56.8°. Two fingers of khaki foam atop ruby brown liquid with excellent clarity; long lasting cap retention; heavy ring and lacing; thin legs on swirl. Nose is herbal green hops and caramel. Entry is bitter hops followed by sweet caramel, and then molasses; toffee as beer warms; bittersweet baker’s chocolate on backend; bitter hop finish. Medium body; smooth tongue coating; moderate minus carbonation; no warmth from 11.2% abv. Overall, if you like barleywine to have bitterness along with the caramel sweetness (I do), then this ale has a boatload of bitterness…maybe too much (75 IBU); layers of flavors and enough sugar to keep the hops from going overboard…still a long bitter linger; I wonder if another six months would back off some of the hop bitterness…still, I like this beer and would gladly drink again.

    5.0 | 4.25 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.5

    Score: 4.47 rDev +9.8%

Cheers y’all and have a great thirsty Thursday!

@Shanex - Love the beer, never heard of Scott Welland before, but really enjoyed the song.

@DoctorZombies - I had the same take as you regarding Nemesis, and I typically like bitterness, but this was a one note bitterness for me which needed more balance (4.5 / 3.75 / 3.5 / 3.25 / 3.5). Gifted one, aging the last two hoping for the agreed upon balancing to occur.

@Ozzylizard - Thanks for kicking the thread off again, you've inspired me to also do laundry, and hopefully also a property tax appeal.

My selection for this morning, 2018 Drago, a barrel aged stout (typically produced annually) with this particular vintage currently on tap at the brewery. I reviewed the 2020 vintage in the New Beer Weekend thread, reviewed today's beer in the Cellar review thread.

Long story short, this version held up well, though I preferred the 2020 version, and will definitely drink the next release fresh.

1978 songs were plentiful and great last Saturday, two more penned by artists across the pond.

He passed away at a pretty young age a number of years ago. Sure he wasn’t a fame like Bruce Springsteen is, but still a talented musician. Of course here I shared a cover of him from Depeche Mode.

Lunch today is leftovers and Bud which is fine because I don't mind leftovers and I like Bud.

Made the long drive over to Valdez, AK yesterday and checked into our cabin on Robe Lake. Enjoyed the evening with ‘21 Parabola. A first for me and it was awesome.

I didn't realize he was the lead singer for STP, wasn't a huge fan but did like a couple of their songs.

But not the song they lifted from Jim Croce.

Live from the Riv in Chicago.

I'm starting off Thursday with a Bell's Lemon-Lime Flamingo Fruit Fight. It's a hose brewed with lemon, lime, sea salt and coriander. It's pretty good, but not great. Aroma is pretty light, but fortunately the taste is stronger. A nice one for a hot day.

Wifey's back from errands, so I'm sharing this one with her. Goose Island Sophie. It's a proper Saison. It's rated outstanding here and it deserves it.

Drinking Blue/Point Toasted Lager. Blue Point was bought out by AB/Inbev years ago, I
had Toasted Lager on draft while they where still independent and it was decent. This beer
is a less dynamic/dumbed down version of that beer, but still not a bad 25oz gas station beer

Currently, it’s sunny, the temperature is 88°, with 65% humidity, and the “feels like” is a muggy 97°. Hopefully this afternoon’s rain will cool things down a bit…I feel a breeze and see dark clouds coming…Cheers!
