Heading to Charleston this weekend and there hasn't been a thread with updates in a few years (that I could find.) Any where worth hitting that's newer? Already have Brew Cellar, EO, Charles Towne on the list. Love Westbrook but not sure I can make their hours fit my schedule this time.
If you’re going to Brew Cellar, next door is Commonhouse and they’re worth a stop. Their Park Circle Pale Ale is my local go to. If you make it out to Westbrook, Hobcaw is close by and also worth a stop.
Piggybacking on this thread, heading down to Charleston for a wedding the weekend of March 5th and I'll have about a half day to explore. Wondering if anyone has any brewery/food/other things to do recommendations as it'll be my first time there. I am Staying downtown at the Francis Marion hotel. Was planning to head up to the Nomo/North Central/East Central area, grab lunch at Rodney Scott's, and then check out a couple breweries. I haven't heard of most of them, so was thinking of starting at Edmund's Oast, but I'm open to recommendations. Likely will stay relatively close to downtown but would be open to trekking up to North Charleston if COAST or Commonhouse are worth going to. Thanks!
If you leave downtown to go to a brewery, go to Charles Towne Fermentory. That’s the best brewery in Charleston and it’s a short drive. Downtown - Edmunds Oast, Revelry, Munkle. For food, Lewis BBQ is in that same area and is so good.
Double piggy-backing this thread - heading to Charleston in early April with my family. Staying downtown near intersection of Spring & St. Philip. I'm planning to drive over to Charles Towne Fermentory and hopefully hitting EO as well. Any hyper-local (i.e., walkable) recommendations for takeout cans/bottles and food? For cans/bottles, I prefer pale ales, IPAs, and pale Belgian-styles. Also appreciate an local not-to-miss styles. For food - looking for low-country recommendations. Breakfast/lunch/dinner. Fun recommendations on things to do also welcome - kids are 13 and 10. Thanks!

You’re not gonna find a ton in terms of bottle shops downtown. Best bet for cans is EO Exchange while you hit EO. For beer bars, Kudu or Pour are within walking distance. For food/beer in the area, Lewis BBQ, Rarebit, Edmunds Oast, Edmunds Oast Brewing, Stellas. Most low country stuff would be a longer walk/drive to East Bay. Favorite breakfast place is out on IOP, Acme. But downtown Big Bad Breakfast or Hot and Handy are both great.
Brief review since we just got back from our Charleston trip. We did everything take-out / to-go due to our Covid concerns. That said, most places are open (if they didn't close permanently) and a lot of restaurants were surprisingly (to us) crowded. Beer: picked up CTF 4-packs/crowlers to go, super easy using their website and was able to park right in front of the brewery. EO Exchange also - they let you make mixed 4-packs of their cans, and they have a limited selection of other area breweries. Hit both Revelry locations, got the saison and a wild ale - both pretty good. Friendly folks at all four places. I also checked out local groceries and the Harris Teeter. Most have some stock of local breweries (including EO, but not CTF). I picked up Westbrook One Claw at one of them, good beer but I wasn't a big fan. Food we loved: Vicious Biscuit (Mt. Pleasant), Insomnia Cookies / Jeni's Ice Cream / Peace Pies (my kids like dessert) Food we liked: Rarebit (thanks for the rec), Rodney Scott's BBQ Food we won't go back for: Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls (it's a chain) We didn't get to try Lewis BBQ or Stellas, among others. Two neighborhood places near us that I'd recommend, though not traditional cuisine: Poke San (poke bowls & sushi at Spring & St. Philip) and D'Ellesandro's (pizza at Bogard & St. Philip).
Home Team BBQ and Obstinate Daughter are my go-to restaurants there. For beer, Westbrook is always worth a stop depending on how far out you're willing to venture. Charles Towne Fermentory is my other favorite brewery down there. In the city, I like Edmund's Oast (brewery location is in a courtyard with a bunch of other food court type places), Lewis BBQ, 167 Raw, the Darling, and 82 Queen.
Bottles is close to Sullivan’s and is the best beer store in town. House of Brews is a cool spot just over the bridge in Mount Pleasant for on-site consumption and some to go. Poes on the island has a solid local draft list. The burger is better across the street at Home Team though.
I prefer restaurant, better food, good cocktails, amazing desserts, a lot of Edmunds Oast Brewing on tap inside, and can still get all of the EO Brewing cans next door at the Exchange. You won’t be disappointed with either though and EO Brewing would be a better choice if you have kids.
Visiting next weekend for the first time. Plan on hitting Charles Towne Fermentory, EO and possibly Westbrook. Any other spots I should consider? I like all styles but prefer hops and stouts. Revelry is a cool spot and worth a stop. The Hold is right there too and its their barrel aged and funk taproom. If you’re over at Westbrook, Hobcaw has good hazy IPAs. Holy City is a cool spot with awesome bar food even if the beer isn’t great. Other food: Chubby Fish, Darling Oyster Bar, Obstinate Daughter, Little Jacks for burgers. For cocktails, gin joint, prohibition, Belmont, Proof, Doar Bros. Griffon for dive bar.
if you can make it over to hilton island, side hustle brewing is making some of the best beers in the state. Ctown Fermentory and Westrbook are 1a and 1b with EO being a distant 2nd in my opinion. Have yet to been the Hold but do love the Revelry Brewing space even if the beers are not my favorite.
