BL usually has more barrel aged stouts on tap than some breweries pour hazies. Fundamental Observation and FOMO (Fundamental Observation with coffee) were still available in the tasting room when I was there recently - a no brain buster if there ever was one. Their BA beers generally run about 14% ABV so I usually order the short 4 oz pours.

BA stouts are generally not an entry (or even intermediate) level craft beer drinker's cup of tea, which is why I suggested dabbling around the menu to start. Granted I'm making a big assumption about OP here, but I don't think it's a stretch to assume that about someone who consciously drives by a highly regarded craft brewery for the better part of a decade on a daily basis and never stops by once.
Far be it from you to make that small extra effort, instead assuming it's the job of someone else as long as you've pointed it out first. I admit, I rarely look at user start dates, but now that I look at his post history, it seems he's an experienced homebrewer, which only perplexes the mind further.

@Ruderalis welcome to the platform, although my curiosity remains the same, and maybe even intensifies. BA is typically on the more intentionally geekier and deliberative end of the spectrum of options, especially in this day and age of social media being right at your thumb pads. But if your homebrewing explorations were the catalyst, that makes total sense. Sometimes they seem like an entirely separate community over there, so it's nice to see you to start in with some cross pollination.

Newest batch of FO is a definite improvement over last year's disappointment, but still not as good as it used to be.

The double-mash does nothing for me. Makes it thick and chewy which isn't necessarily what I'm after. Why they chose to do this after so many iterations of this amazing beer, I have no idea. Why mess with a good thing? Does double-mash cover up flaws? Or did they really think they needed to thicken FO up after all these years? They could have just released a double-mash variant and sold a ton more bottles on top of the regular.

The vanilla wasn't on the level I was hoping for, either. Not sure if the double-mash has something to do with the lack of vanilla or what.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a fine beer, but just not on the level it used to be. FO has always been my favorite beer from them since B1, but I'm worried its glory days might be past.

Because ever since the lactose revolution, thicc is all the rage! At least BL is trying to do it without the milk sugar. But I am intrigued by your findings.

I repair things for Bottle Logic, and drinking during the day at work isn't really acceptable, so...

There are like twenty breweries within two miles of BL, and most of them are clients of mine. Phantom, Broken Timbers, Juniper & Morgan, Brewery X, Bruery, Chapman Crafted, Green Cheek, and Golden Road come immediately to mind. I've had drinks at like two of them in the last few years I think?

I'm more of a homebrewer, tbh. Tonight I'm bottling an IPA and drinking an irish dry stout. Both of those styles are usually really disappointing from craft breweries, and many of my favorites aren't popular enough to be represented on their taps either.

Had my last PCC b1 bottle yesterday, man, what a beer. The chocolate flavor had started to dominate the other flavors as a sort of dark/bakers chocolate, but the marshmallow component was still very much there, especially as it warmed. Blueberries also still there, when cold as a minimal flavor but as it warmed a sweet/tart blueberry that paired great with the chocolate and marshmallow base. It's drinking amazing right now, especially if you're a dark/bakers chocolate fan.

Unrelated, but I thought both Broken Blender and Phosphorescence were suprisingly good. I'm not much of a rum fan at all but I thought BL nailed the flavors of what they were going for with those beers.

I think i should also point put that most of their Barrel Aged stouts are usually on the SWEET side of the spectrum.
Their IPAs are good but every brewery you fix stuff at makes those .
If you like sweet dessert stuffs give their stuff a try

Excited to try the new stout coming tomorrow, Deprecophobia. I've had very few Voodoo beers up to this point but from what little I've tried I've liked a lot, and I'm sure with the double-mash/no adjunct base it'll be good regardless.

    It’s fire. :fire:

Reminds me of old school BL but with thicker mouthfeel. So damn good. Wish limits were higher.

What do you think of PCC relative to More Time to Explain?

I like More Time to Explain in small doses. I think it's very good but its so sweet with the maple, especially as it warms, its hard for me to have more than 4-7 oz of it at a time. I do think they nailed the blueberry pancake flavors though, definitely can't argue with that. It's not quite blueberry pancake Black Tuesday good, but it's not terribly far away from it either.

PCC, either batch, I'd have no problem solo-doming a bottle because its much more balanced to me. It's sweet yes, being a s'mores stout after all, but the chocolate doesn't taste real sugary, but rather dark/bakers chocolate. I think that tones down the marshmallow sweetness a decent amount and the blueberrys themselves arent terribly sweet either, I got a nice mix of sweet/tart from the b1 I recently had. I even got some slight graham cracker flavor in my b1 when it was near room temp, even though the beer is now 3 years old which I thought was pretty impressive, but at this point b1 is largely a chocolate/marshmallow/blueberry stout, in that order. Haven't had a b2 since Spring so I'll have to revisit that at some point.

Stopped by tasting room after a concert a few days ago hoping to try some of the Deprecophobia, but was bummed to find out the keg kicked a few days before.

There's still a market out there for non-adjunct thicc stouts! Reject modernity! Embrace tradition!

I did try the Appied Science and enjoyed it, however. Strong berry flavors and the cinnamon gives it a nice spice kick on the finish. But I'm just jonesing for a non-adjunct stout, man. JONESING.

I got a bottle of Deprecophobia i am considering trading...but only for KBBS :joy:
    In all seriousness
I got one but i ordered with intention of trading it to someone out east for something else becuase i doubt I'll like this based off everything else I've had from BL.
After reading here about it though i may keep it

They did a great job with Deprecophobia. It's not like drinking high fructose corn syrup laced with cocoa powder, at least in my opinion. Barrel forward but enough sweetness to round things out, plus dat thicc mouf feel.

For $40, I consider a bottle of Mrs Butterworth + Hershey's cocoa a particularly low bar to cross.
