It's not a 1:1 recreation, but I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be an updated version of Yahhhrrrggg!

What have people here thought about the anniversary series vs their counterparts?

    One / Julius
    Four / Jjjuliusss
    Five / King Jjjuliusss

I've gotta say I've been somewhat surprised as a "TH is as good as ever" truther to think that at least one of them is better than the most recent batch I've had of its corresponding current rendition, if not two.

Is that was those beers are? Damn, I figured they were just re-releases of their anniversary beers. Probably should actually read the description next time.

    Oh well, saved some money.

It’s more that they are saying these are the versions of those beers the first time they brewed them. The beers named Julius, etc. have evolved into today’s version. The numbered things are purporting to be throwbacks to their older versions. It’s just another beer at the the end of the day!

So this is off topic but does anyone have recommendations for breweries to stop by in SC. Headed to myrtle but will be cruising the coast down to hilton head as well. Completely clueless as to what may be worth at stop. Thanks in advance.

I just tried Five and it's definitely the one that confuses me the most. Not only does it not taste like modern King JJJ, it resembles a lot of their more recent recipes . Meanwhile, the last time I had King JJJ I thought "while this is still great, it's starting to show its age".

If Four was supposed to be Jjjulius - I get why it was so good - because i was really pleasantly surprised with that - haven't had Five yet.

Five tasted to me like halfway in between JJJ and KJJJ, which is interesting to me because my distinct memory from the 4th anniversary party was that the former was much better for not being so over the top hoppy. I've only had one can of Five so far, but based on that I'm surprised at the 'tastes like more recent recipes' note - to me it's more restrained than even the initial version was, and imo it's fantastic for it.

Four I also thought was amazing, though less in the better than JJJ category and more like just wow what a great batch of JJJ category.

Hadn’t had any Treehouse beers in ages. Got some this summer, FOUR included. It was the absolute standout of the beer I bought on that visit. Excellent beer.

Have you been in that neighborhood? It's not quite as rural as Monson but it's not exactly built to handle the type of traffic/crowds that comes with all things Treehouse. I can understand the hesitancy if I lived there, too.

At the same time, you own your land. Not the neighborhood. I think it’s entitlement mixed with a lack of understanding of what a brewery brings in. Better than some shit sports bar slinging shots and pint glass drinks. My neighborhood here in Portsmouth is quiet and my street my home is on is great. But I’d welcome a well established brewery here if they wanted to open one. That land there has always been some form of restaurant as well.

Did they need a zoning change? If I lived on a quiet neighborhood, zoned residential, and they turned it into a Commercial Zone, I'd be pissed too. But if you live somewhere close to Commercial zoned lots, then buyer beware...

Technically true but “the neighborhood” has legal standing. I would assume a Special Permit from either the Planning Board or Zoning Board was needed for the change in use. One of the requirements and obligations of the Applicant is to prove that the new use will not be “ more detrimental to the neighborhood.” That’s standard language for all Special Permits. I agree with the clause as it protects abutters from noise, air, traffic, etc. that all could become worse depending on the use.
