Samuel Adams Oktoberfest

Appearance is of deep golden amber with bountiful white cap and good lacing.
Aroma is malt foremost, caramel, toffee malt in the sweet sense without hop sharpness.

Flavor is full on malt with depth and richness. There is a more roasty bitterness in this than older versions of Sam Adams Oktoberfest I have tried. This is full flavored and it's good flavor. I get little hop presence on entry, mid palate, or in the finish which is clean and short. Hops are there but too shy to give more than a glimpse of their presence. There is a residual darker malt sweetness (molasses?) in the aftertaste that doesn't linger very long.

Overall this is a very flavorful beer packed with malt sensations that range from light through rich to dark with an underlying sweetness that isn't really there, just the sense of it due to the lack of hop sharpness to moderate the full on malt flavor. The roast malt undertaste is a bit more bitter than I like..

Fall is here! Only supposed to be in the low 80s today.
Only two of us golfed this morning and we chugged around in 2.5 hours.
Haven't had this beer in 3-4 years.

 

Love that (and most) Unibroue beers @lordofthewiens , need to grab some soon.

Full review in the Oktoberfest Tasting Thread. Bottom line, this is the one to get if you are still looking for an Oktoberfest for the season.

No Sox baseball today, they were defeated by rain instead of the Detroit Tigers this afternoon.

 

Cleaned out the gutters and split all the wood we cut the other day. The wood needs stacked and the chimney needs cleaned, but my ability to procrastinate will win out for now. Really don't feel like getting up on the roof.



A good beer will help.

When we lived in Maine Unibroue beers were a staple in my fridge. Here in New Mexico they are a rarity.

 

Love those Unibroue bombers. Never seen them in Europe so far.

On a side note, 31 years ago today, we tapped a keg of Catamount Amber
at 9 am, at my best friends house, just a mile by horse drawn carraige down the dirt rd in Chesterfield Ma, to where Jan and I got married.
Heading out to dinner in a bit to celebrate.
I miss Catamount!!

One block (course) done, one more course to go, then theses for the rest of semester.
N/A UA Watermelon Gose, as I need to read, assess, score up a baker's dozen of final research papers. Got my 6 miler in on trails this morning before last class, so that felt good.
