Good day BAs! Off to another cool start to the day - warm enough not to need the furnace and cool enough not to need the AC - sort of in that mediocre temperature hell. Just finished (while typing) today's New Breakfast Beer, from @snaotheus in a BIF #14 LIF - thanks Ryan!:

Very good DIPA! Lost points because of no dating on the can (Life's a bitch, ain't it!). Rating 4.29, rDev -5.3%.

    Hello everybody!
These are the small considerations I made yesterday at Zwanze Day 2021 @Machesieteventiafa, Rome, Italy:

Brasserie Cantillon - ZWANZE 2021: PARASOL - Lambic with oranges, mandarins and cedars (5%)

Just tapped immediately enveloping smell of freshly squeezed ripe orange juice.
Soft foam that slowly dissolves, reducing to a superficial veil.
In the mouth the taste of ripe orange dominates unchallenged, from squeezed, with a slight acidulous note that on the whole also seems citric.
    Dry and thirst-quenching finish.
The smooth, flat body makes this lambic slide down just like an orange soda.
Objectively, it was presented to me as "sour with oranges" I would believe, the distinctive elements of lambic (body apart) are overwhelmed by this absolute scent and taste of "orange".
Definitely fresh beer and very pleasant to drink, but in my humble opinion, if the goal was to be inspired as much as possible by an orange drink, this has been largely achieved (even if I have NEVER drunk or known Parasol) , otherwise, as lambic with the addition of fruit (in this case citrus) I do not think that the maximum balance and optimal valorization of this lambic has been reached.
More than a lambic with added citrus, it looks like orange juice with added lambic
Among the last ones, and considering that my first Zwanze was from 2015 (Wild Stout which made several barrels), the one I remember as truly balanced and wonderful to taste was that of 2018, which passed through Amarone, Sangiovese and Chianti barrels.

In any case, on the occasion of this Zwanze Day 2021 I also had the privilege of tasting for the first time the
50 ° N-4E ° Lambic, barrel aged for two years in Cognac (7%)
which in my opinion is an absolute masterpiece of balance and nuances ranging from the typical reflection of Bretta mold, to the roundness of the wood, the alcoholic note of the distillate that emerges in the background ... entered by right among my favorites of Brasserie Cantillon.

I usually prefer Belgian beers for their malt character and tart yeast character.
This 9.5%ABV beauty had a boatload of hop bitterness to complete a nice balance.

Digging up your own potatoes is pretty impressive, how long of a season do you have with them where you are??
I would have to run them in the house and clean them immediately before the wife saw all that dirt. She wouldn't be able to get past that

I used to do it with my grandpa and other much older friends of my family. Digging your own potatoes has become more rare? For sure they’re awesome, good and so « organic » too.

One of the regrets of living in Chicago / a city. Sounds like great memories.

Loved the pics and discussion yesterday of the Houston venue 14 Pews @Bigrock & @champ103 , hope to make it there one day and catch the film on PBS.

Also, @Brugesman , the photo sharing site ban was less than a day, postimages and other sites are allowed again to host pictures here.

Back to the Oktoberfests after a weekend of Revolution IPAs, this one from not too far away.

Oktoberfest thread treatment here, long story short, the taste was bolder than my original short sample, it's a good marzen.

Back to 1996/1997, the first tune likely what the Sox will run into this postseason for the La Russa hire.

Hellooooo Advocates! Thanks @Ozzylizard for starting today's thread. I've been busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger. Got outa town for a spell and hit Sioux Falls hard this past Saturday. Picked up some new beer and a few items I already like. Also went to Sickie's Garage for a good burger/Dogfish Head 60 min IPA and to Cody's BBQ Smokehouse for a Bell's 2 hearted and a fantastic pork platter with deep fried dill pickles. Fell in love with copious pints of Fernson's Lion's Paw Lager...incredible. I'll be hittin' that later to review. But to the point of this thread, saw a 15pk of this Founders Scarlet Dawn Session Red IPA at a HyVee and I'm VERY glad I got it. It's divine! Elegant bitterness, well balanced, lite bread malt, lite toastiness, brisk, lightly dry with a moderately fast finish. Actually at 5.1%ABV and full-flavored, it's slightly difficult for me to shove this beer into a "Session" peg hole. I do like it a lot. Cheers folks. Keep on smiling!
