Daaaang, the head on that for an 11% ABV stout is impressive! And I want to sip the foam it looks so tasty.

It was the best part. Kind of like melted ice cream.

Well with the Oktoberfest tasting thread wrapping up tonight, I wanted to get to a couple new ones this evening. First up is Rothaus - Eiszäpfle. I have been really excited to try this one since it showed up here stateside this year.

The appearance on this is really nice - its crystal clear. Light golden in color with a thin one to two finger white head. Aroma has notes of white bread, slightly sweet with a mild crackery character. Along with the bready malts come some spicy, herbal German hops. A touch of dried grass and straw is present on the back end.

Taste follows the nose with notes of white bread, crackery malts, with a definite sweetness to the beer. The mid to back end brings in those spicy, grassy German hops along with some notes of dried straw. The hops produce a moderate bitterness on the back end, Feel is light bodied, crisp, and soft. Bright carbonation. A tad drier on the finish.

Overall this is a very nice beer that falls in line with the modern oktoberfestbiers. Its not the best out there, but I really enjoyed it. Id happly pick up a 6-pack next year if it shows up again.

Next up is Old Irving Brewing - Oktoberfest a märzen lager. Old Irving does not get much attention for their lagers, but I have found them to be solid. Hoping this one is no different.

Pours a crystal clear amber color. Thick four or five finger off-white head forms on the beer, lingers momentarily, then quickly dissipates leaving just a thin layer of sudsy foam on the beer. Aroma has notes of toasted malts, dark fruit, soft pretzel, with some spicy, earthy hop notes on the back end. Its not bad, but its a bit off from what I would expect from a märzen.

Taste is very malty up front with a nutty, grainy character that also has some toasted notes and soft pretzel. Hops come through on the back end, but in a subtle secondary manner. Earthy, herbal hop notes on the back end providing a light bitterness. Feel is light to moderately bodied. Mild carbonation. Very dry, almost too dry for the style and for me.

Overall this one was rather disappointing. Its just off from what a märzen should be - I finished the can, but I would skip this one in the future.

A rare light Sunday Night New Beer for me to celebrate both New Beer Sunday 867 and two Baseball "Rotisserie" (all head to head format) Championships, and 5 medals out of 8 teams. I'm hoping no stat corrections undue the one - it was came down to a walk.

Picked up two among hundreds at my local European grocery store. Sadly nearly all have no discernable dates. This one has a best by date of June 2, 2022, which hopefully indicates it was brewed June 3, 2021 (I've seen a 2 year span between packaged and best by dates for some European imports - Any clarification would be greatly appreciated).

Appearance: Bottle poured into large Carlsburg glass, clear golden straw base, generous bright white creamy head leaves heavy cover over base and sporadic lacing. 4.0

    Aroma:
Rich Saaz hops aroma, bready, salty cracker, light grassy and honey backing. Enticing. 4.0

    Taste:
Consistent with aroma, pleasant and bold Pilsner taste. Nice cracker, salt, a bit of pepper, grassy hops balances perfectly. Nice classic Pilsner. 4.5

    Moutfeel:
Lightly dry, balanced to edge bitter, light crisp body, carbonation sustained throughout, lightly fizzy on the tongue. Easy clean crisp finish, alcohol light as a feather. 4.25

    Overall:
This is a very nice classic Pilsner, Saaz hops and malt blended perfectly, nice grassy backing of the cracker profile. Will definitely seek out fresh versions of this in the future. 4.25

Will try a side by side with my favorite local Pilsner, Half Acre Pony, down the road. Enjoying while scrolling through the reviews and discussion from today.
